I like cats, but there aren't enough dog pictures. Covidiots, led by Trump and other members of the GOP, have managed to kill off perhaps half a million US residents, citizens and otherwise, who didn’t have to die*. ON PURPOSE! That’s biological warfare! It isn’t over yet, either. Hundreds more of us die every day. Many of the deaths would have been prevented by more universally observed precautions which at least delayed cases so that the hospitals weren’t so overloaded, or until we had vaccines, or until we had Paxlovid. Mass shootings are horrifying, and a lot of people are trying to push forward laws to prevent them**. Justifiably so. However, covidiocy has killed hundreds of times more. If we, as a nation, were rational, there would be tremendous public pressure to require masks, better ventilation, etc. Also for vaccination. Furthermore, a great deal more resources should be devoted to research, to treat covid, to prevent it, and to deal with the next pandemic. Hospitals should develop greater excess capacity for the next time something like this hits, or in case covid-19 resurges, which wouldn’t surprise me at all. We spend hundreds of billions of dollars annually on “national defense”. Surely a fraction of that to fight something that has killed so many of us would be justified. I suppose it’s just a fantasy, but it would be great if there was a presumptive assumption of liability for anyone who refused to wear a mask in an indoor public space near anyone who later developed a case of covid. I’m pretty sure public health measures in general deliver the best bang per buck of anything the government can do, so we should be demanding that more resources are devoted to them. *I figure we weren’t going to prevent covid-19 entirely, but the covidiots did their best to pump up those numbers. So I figure half the deaths might have been avoided. I’ve mentioned the deaths, but of course there are far more who have suffered long term consequences, and even more who have suffered for a few weeks. **Garden variety murder with guns also kills far more than mass shootings do.
