Even Forbes calls bullshit on this claim). It was a nauseating experience, but the one bright point is that Scott is not done trashing Mitch McConnell. According to Scott, Mitch McConnell’s plan to not sunset Social Security is “disingenuous.” For those with strong stomachs, here is the video. But here is some of what the ghoul from Florida had to say: 'It's nice to get attacked by the Washington establishment.' U.S. Sen. Rick Scott continues to squabble with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell over Scott’s “12-point plan to rescue America,” which includes a suggestion that federal programs be reviewed every five years. During an appearance on the Fox News Channel, the Florida Senator responded to the latest excoriation of his proposal from the leader of the Senate Republicans, yet another flare-up in an increasingly hot war. He described McConnell’s argument as “disingenuous” and said the Kentucky Republican was part of the “Washington establishment” in his latest heated remarks on the subject. “It’s nice to get attacked by the Washington establishment, because it tells everybody I actually represent Floridians,” Scott told host Martha MacCallum. The Senator said his plan to “rescue America” includes a provision that “Congress ought to tell you how they’re going to preserve Medicare and Social Security that are going bankrupt.” “Now, they say if I said in there we ought to review programs every five years, they said somehow that’s a cut. Well, you know what? What do we do on defense? There’s no 40-year plan for defense. There’s no 100-year plan for defense. Every year we go through the defense budget. So if you don’t support a 100-year defense plan, you must be cutting defense every year,” Scott mockingly asserted. “This is disingenuous. I don’t believe that we should ever be reducing Medicare or Social Security benefits. But guess what? $31.5 trillion worth of debt. When we get to $45 trillion in debt, is somebody going to take this stuff seriously and save these programs?” Scott is not letting this go. He feels that he is representing “Floridians.” A bunch of whom are retirees, but as noted by many others on Daily Kos, Republican seniors are willfully blind when it comes to Republican efforts to not just cut Social Security but to ELIMINATE IT! However, Moscow Mitch has enough awareness to realize that a public stance of eliminating Social Security is a political loser with Democratic and independent voters. Moscow Mitch wants to eliminate Social Security, but he wants no Republican fingerprints or DNA on destroying Social Security. And this is the reason why Mitch is against sunsetting Social Security, at least without say Democratic support. And by the way Senator Scott, Biden didn’t say you wanted to cut Social Security. He specifically said you want to sunset the program. And if someday congress should fuck up and not vote to continue Social Security by some legislative “accident, well, ooops! The good news for Scott is that he is a senator from Florida. From what I can see, Republicans have been able to lie to the voters of Florida for decades now, so Scott will probably be reelected next year. It helps that there is no functioning state Democratic Party too. However, the pissing contest between Scott and Moscow Mitch is not going to help other Republicans running for office in 2024. It keeps it out in the open that Republicans hate Social Security and Medicare. And it adds to the deserved reputation of Republicans as extremists. Republicans Rioting may someday became a media narrative.
