The Party That Respects Life [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-14 The G.O.P. claims it reveres human life, so much so that one of their major objectives is to outlaw abortion, in any form. Even if an abortion is required to save the life of the mother, the G.O.P. thinks the right of the fetus to life over-rules anything else, even the mother’s life. In a logical world, one would assume that people with such a reverence for human life would extend this love of life through to every corner of their society. One might assume that any tools which could erase the lives of innocent people, whether they be children or adults, would not be tolerated. At least, such lethal tools would have severe limits imposed upon their use. Likewise, any policies that might result in harming the lives of weaker people, such as limiting their ability to purchase food, obtain shelter, or acquire medical care which potentially might result in loss of life, would also not be tolerated. I am far from the first to point out the disconnect between the Republican Party claiming to revere human life through its attempts to outlaw abortion, but at the same time removing any and all restrictions on firearm ownership. This same “life loving” political party also is attempting to remove protections given to elderly people through social security and medicare. Religious people reference the Bible’s injunction forbidding people to kill other people. A person who either enables someone else to kill another person or could take action to prevent a killing and does nothing is just as guilty of killing as the killer. A person who withholds food, shelter, or medical care from another with a resulting death is also guilty of killing. Because of the disconnect between the Republican life-loving claim while simultaneously promoting policies that result in loss of life, I cannot conclude the Republican party loves human life. Instead, I can only conclude the Republican Party is a party of people that think they are members of a ruling elite and as a result, want to control the lives of people not members of this elite. How someone can feel pleasure over causing someone else discomfort or death is beyond my comprehension.
