George Washington Carver the definitive profile [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-16 George Washington Carver George Washington Carver the world’s greatest agricultural scientist of the 20th century and perhaps the most accomplished American of the 20th century. Over the years I have given countless lectures on the life of George Washington Carver and before ending my talks I always remind my audience that in my world Dr. Carver is without any doubt the most accomplished American of the last 120 years. Why do I speak with such confidence? Well for one thing I am one of the top scholars in the world on the life of George Washington Carver, I hasten to add the beloved Dick Gregory perhaps knew more about Dr. Carver than any other human being on the planet earth. My journey began many years ago when I was a New York stage actor; I was asked to play a young George Washington Carver and when I started my research on the man I thought my head would explode. Long after the play I continued my study and todate I have read over 1,000 essays and perhaps 30 books on Dr. Carver. I have written over 35 essays on George Washington Carver during my life. The accomplishments of Dr. Carver are really too many to list, but let me give you a few important ones that stand out in my mind. George Washington Carver had 325 global products made from the Peanuts alone. He had 125 global products that were made from Sweet Poatoes. George Washington Carver invented shoe wax. During World War I he replaced textile dyes that were being imported from Europe and he was able to produce over 500 shades for the U.S. Military. In 1927 Dr. Carver invented a process for producing paints and stains from soybeans. In 1918 George Washington Carver was called before Congress to help save the crops of the Southern farmers; and during his speech before Congress in the audience was Thomas Edison and soon after the talk Edison offered George Washington Carver $100,000 yearly salary plus a $200,000 signing bonus if he would come work for him; Dr. Carver turned him down. George Washington Carver did give away many ideas to Thomas Edison without any expectation of compensation. He also gave away ideas to Henry Ford and it was Dr. Carver who gave Ford the idea of a manufacturing plant. Today if you took a poll and asked who was the most accomplished black American of the 20th century many would say Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I stand on the opposite end of the room and as a scholar on the life of Dr. Carver I would say Dr. King had great parents and he grew up with all the resources a black child could ever dream of. George Washington Carver was born into slavery and he never knew his mother or his father, he never even knew his actual birthday. He was traded for a broken down race horse as a young boy. He was castrated. Yes he was castrated! He never had a single role model to follow or look up to.. All the crap that can be heaped on a life was put on the shoulders of George Washington Carver and somehow this man came out on top. I tell you the truth, George Washington Carver is the most accomplished American of the 20th century! In 1938 Hollywood made a movie called, “Life of George Washington Carver” and for this reason he was the first black super hero in Hollywood. Did you know George Washington Carver is the only American that has two U.S. Naval ships named after him? Did you know George Washington Carver is the only American that has two U.S. Postage Stamps with his image? Did you know George Washington Carver has a 50-cent coin in his likeness with a value of $1,000 ? Did you know there are more schools in America named after George Washington Carver than any other American living or dead? The beloved George Washington Carver passed away on the cold morning of January 5th 1943.
