CHRISTIANS WHO ARE CHALLENGING CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-17 CHRISTIANS WHO ARE CHALLENGING CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM I am posting this information in reaction to recent diaries about religious faith. In the journey of my life, I have been sympathetic to both points of view (Christian and atheist). I believe a deeper understanding of the various perspectives can be very helpful in maintaining our political alliances across our differences. For example, a view I had never been aware of—one commenter explained the stress and anger that comes from being an atheist living in the South. This information really helped me understand his reactions to Daily Kos discussions of Christian faith. For another perspective: There is a small progressive Christian organization that has been reaching out to evangelical and Catholic voters to educate them about the dangers of Christian Nationalism. The info below from their website: What and Why - Vote Common Good Since 2018 Vote Common Good has worked to inspire, energize, and mobilize people of faith to reject the far-right’s dangerous Christian Nationalist agenda and place the common good at the top of their voting criteria. We’ve helped elect some of the most important new voices in Congress and pulled support from Trump in states key to Biden’s 2020 victory. This year we helped defend the Senate majority and defeat election-deniers and insurrectionists up and down the ballot. Now we're focused on the 2024 presidential election Interesting story in the New Yorker about the org’s work: Teaching Democrats to Speak Evangelical | The New Yorker Below is information about another pastor who is critical of the conservative Christian church. (From an email) John Pavlovitz is a writer, pastor, and activist from Wake Forest, North Carolina. You may have seen his work condemning gun violence, speaking out against LGBTQIA hate in the church, or sparring with Christian Nationalists. You’re receiving this message because you’ve expressed an interest in this kind of work in the past, and we thought you might be interested in keeping up with John’s blog, speaking engagements, and activism. We all have a niche where we can be effective, and we can appreciate our alliances when they help us in our political goals.
