Occasionally, I may add a section or a link related to books… I am reading: Adulthood Rites by Octavia Butler - I was on the verge of giving this story up...not enough action...but then Lilith’s son, Akin, eventually meets and is cared for by Tate and Gabe— two of the first people that Lilith awakened on the Oankali ship. Both are now resistors yet, in a way, Tate and Gabe are almost Akin’s aunt and uncle and they treat him that way. Akin learns more about his Human side before Lilith finds him. Now...Akin prepares to enter puberty metamorphosis. Overall, the action in Dawn is better but, gradually, the metaphors in Adulthood Rites are deeper and exceptionally thought out. “If you have time, I’ll tell you why I put things in my mouth.” “All kids put things in their mouths— and sometimes they poison themselves.” “I must put things in my mouth to understand them. Not to try would be like having hands and eyes and yet always being tied and blindfolded. It would make me...not sane.” Sounds like Akin is Human enough in that regard, if you ask me.
