In the beginning, Fort Vancouver had cultural diversity: Scottish, French, and English traders, Indians from numerous tribes, including both Columbia River Indians and Iroquois from Canada, Kanakas from Hawaii, and a few Chinese and even Japanese. Today, the city’s diversity, like its population has increased and this diversity is celebrated in a number of large murals in the downtown area.
