Signs & Portents for the upcoming 2024 election campaign [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-18 You don't have to watch the news to become enraged - these days the ads alone will do it. I was doom-scrolling through the Book of Face this morning, and I was struck by how the paid ads starting to show up are echoing and reinforcing messages coming from the parties out there. I decided to do a bunch of screen grabs to gather specimens for examination. This is a quick way to see what kind of messaging both sides think is effective. I don't know if it’s just me, but it seems like the Right is throwing a lot of money to catapult their propaganda. It must be the “artificial stupid” behind those algorithms we hear so much about. It’s also about their scams of course. Warning — some of these images may be triggering. Let’s start with Hillsdale College, perhaps best simply described as an “Anti-Liberal” Arts college. It’s the model Ron “Meatball” De Santis is using to “reform” schools in Florida. Here’s a bunch of screen caps that show where Hillsdale is coming from — and where the school wants to take America. This is what they call a “push poll”. Instead of gathering information, it’s intended to advance talking points and provide framing for them. It’s part of how they reinforce their messaging. You can see how this is coming out all across the wingnutosphere — it’s the kind of message discipline the Right does so well. Also, they want your money. Let’s check in with Elise Stefanik, total Trump-worshipping carpet-bagger afflicting the North Country of New York State, and #3 in the House GOP zoo. Let’s see what she thinks the critical talking points are for GOP priorities. Get ready for more push polling. Yup, the dog whistles in there show Elise is still pushing the Big Lie, along with transphobia, CRT scary stuff, and the usual GOP messaging. If New Yorkers are worried about the southern border, part of it is from those buses Texas Governor Greg Abbott keeps sending up north without warning, filled with people seeking asylum. And send Elise money. Here’s a minimalist message from Tom (You can’t make these names up) Klingenstein, denizen of the Claremont Institute, “founded in 1979 by four students of Straussian political theorist Harry V. Jaffa, a professor emeritus at Claremont McKenna College and the Claremont Graduate University, although the institute has no affiliation with any of the Claremont Colleges.[3]Under Jaffa and Larry P. Arnn, the institute became a leading Straussian-influenced conservative think tank, publishing on topics such as statesmanship, Lincoln scholarship and modern conservative issues” and now a Trumpian bughouse. Klingenstein thinks he has found the miracle ingredient that will ensure GOP unity. I didn’t go any farther down that rabbit hole, but I’m sure there’s a pitch in there somewhere inviting me to send money. Here’s a question. Who would have thought this is the face you want on an ad campaign? Well now we know what Stephen Miller has been up to. He created for himself a nice cushy wing nut welfare slot at the America First Legal Foundation after his stint working for Trump. Send money today! Only your contributions can keep Stephen Miller from fading away until Dear Leader Trump returns. Meanwhile, what hot-button issues are Democrats concerned about? Yeah — that will really mobilize the base, right? At least some consulting firm got big bucks for this… and send money for more like this. Wait — what’s this? That’s only a trick question if you believe Republicans would never cut Social Security. It’s a real threat, unlike 90% of the stuff coming from the GOP. You know, since lies designed to create fear and anger seem to turn out the GOP base, maybe Democrats should consider more ads telling the truth about Republicans? There’s plenty of real reasons to be angry and afraid of what Republicans want to do. It worked for Harry Truman. One more thing… This one was so pathetic, it’s almost laughable. Look at who is now reduced to selling insurance to the gullibles of the right wing base. Be glad the screen cap doesn't include the video. It’s almost too much to bear, hearing Jr. trying to be sincere. Yeah, they want your money too — but don't worry. Not only will this insurance keep you from ever being woke, you’ll never have to worry about your premiums supporting illegal aliens, abortions, transgender healthcare, reparations, environmental causes, or anything else from the evil liberal socialist agenda. It’s going to be a long slog to November 2024...
