And I Think It Will Work [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-18 The two faces of the Republican party, if we choose to make them that way... I thought of a strategy that should be adopted by the news media: whenever they need a comment on Republican policy about anything, go to George Santos. Taxes, the war in Ukraine, foreign policy, whatever, make Santos the point man. Ignore everyone else whenever possible, but if they do an interview with McCarthy or MTG or Gaetz or someone else, make sure to run to George Santos and find out what he thinks about it. Treat Santos with respect and ask followup questions that aren’t gotcha in nature. Why? Because it’s a no-win strategy for the Republicans. Even if he parrots the party line faithfully, every time his face is on the screen people will think of what he is best known for, lying. If he answers it badly,or claims expertise he doesn’t have, it will give them a bigger black eye. Other Republicans will go nuts because he’s getting the attention that they want, and they’ll try to make him shut up, but I’m betting Santos’s ego is so big that he won’t be able to help but preen for the reporters. If the Party tries to make him shut up and fails, that will get him attention too, and not the type the party wants. Of course some people will say that a second Republican voice is needed, and of course they’re right. I suggest Andy Ogles, profiled in this DK piece. As a matter of fact, Andy Ogles should be asked what he thinks of everything George Santos says, and vice versa. Having them back to back on every broadcast and news article should have Kevin McCarthy and his minions ordering heartburn medicine by the barrel. The really fun part would be seeing how long it takes the Party to realize what is happening, and what they might do to fight back. Because they can’t — to fight back they’d have to address why nobody should listen to Santos and Ogles, and that’s not a discussion I think they really want to have. Go for it, mainstream media — I can promise that not only will it produce newsworthy articles, it will be fun.
