The titles claim “religion” yet mostly all just talk of Christianity vs. Atheism, as if there was just one religion. When asked about their views of Judaism, these atheists toss us in together as if all religious adherents are the same. Stop the strawman. Lets look at a finding from pew research on Jewish identity. It found that the majority of Jews in the US base their id of being Jewish on cultural, and not religious ideals. Broken down by religious Jews vs not the obvious seems to come up: Three-quarters of U.S. Jews say they believe in God or some spiritual force in the universe, including 26% who say they believe in “God as described in the Bible” and about twice as many (50%) who believe in some other spiritual force. Belief in God is much more widespread among Jews by religion than among Jews of no religion. But even among Jews by religion, 14% say they do not believe in any higher power or spiritual force. Meanwhile, 44% of Jews of no religion say they do not believe in any higher power. So it would seem that when one talks about the Biblical G-d, the vast majority of Jews believe in something else. Yet this fact gets lost in the Atheism vs religion discussions here. Jews as a group tend to be politically liberal, pro-choice, etc. Also it is *against* our religion to get people to convert. If you read the diaries that have been around this little fact is not discussed. Also 1 in 5 Jewish Americans say that their belief in religion is highly meaningful. Again far different than Christian adherents, and a fact not discussed by Atheists in their attacks on religion. And the whole idea that Jews, because we believe in a religion, are intellectually ignorant, as these diaries state is far from reality: With an average of 13.4 years of schooling, Jews are the most highly educated of the world’s major religious groups. Nearly all Jewish adults ages 25 and older around the world (99%) have at least some primary education, and a majority (61%) has post-secondary degrees. So please do not include the Jewish people in your bogus strawman attacks against religion.
