From 1959 until 2000, the British Motor Company and its successors made a two-door compact city car known as the mini. The car featured a transverse engine and front-wheel drive. The Mini Cooper and the Cooper “S” were performance versions. Initially, the Mini was marketed under the Austin and Morris names.

The Mini Moke (1964-1969) was intended for the British Army, but it lacked enough ground clearance for military use. About 50,000 were made for civilian use. Moke is archaic British slang for “donkey.”
