Ghana Update- Anabel is Safe for Now [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-19 This is just a quick update to my earlier stories about Anabel and especially www.dailykos.com/… Anabel is a three year old girl in Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana. Her mother abandoned her, I think not intentionally. The mother has mental issues and does not always act responsibly. John took the little girl to a shelter that cares for babies whose parents have temporary problems and cannot care for them. Anabel has come down with a body rash and the people running the shelter did not want to care for a sick child so they were about to throw the little girl out. Well, technically ‘return her to her mother’ but the mother is homeless, mentally ill, and cannot care for her. But the end would have been the same. I thought when I wrote the last story that we were finally at the end of our rope but arrangements have been made for Anabel to stay in the shelter and receive medical treatment. So at least for now she is safe. I apologize for writing these stories about Anabel and the other people in Ghana that John is trying to help. I know this is nothing in level of importance to stories of Biden, congressional votes, and Ukraine. Anabel is just a little girl of no importance in the world and the odds of her even surviving to grow up are poor. The world crushes little ones like Anabel every day and no one even notices. We lost a little homeless street boy awhile back (That was the first diary I ever wrote here, I think) and I do not want to lose another. It is a personal thing with me. There is a story with that, too, but too long to tell here. I know it may sound as if I write these stories to ask for help and I admit I have. And God knows these people need help, the pain there is unbelievable. But I write them because I believe these people matter. They are human, just like all of us, in horrible circumstances. I don’t want the world to just ignore when some of its children are suffering Also, to be selfish, the comments give me strength and comfort. I Know John is doing the yeoman’s work on this, even while we struggle to keep his own family fed, but I feel sometimes like I am fighting off death’s harpies barehanded in the dark. If I were to help just to be complimented that would be a shame to me, but a kind ‘atta boy’ every now and then does help. The photo above is John with his two sons, Jude and Gary, in front of the school they are attending.
