As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern. Hi Gang! Just back from a day’s field trip to the highest peak in the SF Bay Area, Mt. Diablo (State Park), in Contra Costa County, the East Bay. Mt. Diablo itself is just shy of 4,000 feet in elevation but its prime location, amidst a large landscape of much, much lower elevations, much at sea level, makes it a choice spot to see up to 200 miles of California on very, very clear days. (Of which there are fewer than there used to be.) Mt. Diablo State Park was founded in 1921. I had not been to the top of the mountain in maybe 30 years and really looked forward to it. I tried to pick as clear a day as possible—and we did have, from the tower at the peak, a good view of the greater Bay Area, the Sacramento Delta, the South Bay, the Coastal range between the SF Bay and the Pacific Ocean—and the long line of the crest of the Sierra Nevada, heavy with bright, white snowpack. This stone tower was a WPA project, 1930s. We knew it’d be a lot colder at the top of the mountain, than at our sea level point of departure, but the winds there, with wind chill, made it in the very low 30s. And the winds were very strong. Definitely a Hold-onto-your-Hat situation! The foothills in the state park were a brilliant winter green, with dots of just-emerging California poppies. And now a weather forecast for the Bay Area with rain—and lower-elevation snow probable. And definitely atop Mt. Diablo. Yes, it does occasionally snow on Diablo Wow! That’s a week to look forward to! For the whole Bay Area! And, yes, we still need rain (and snow.) And your Presidents’ Day week outlook? ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Finally, all love to President Jimmy Carter, a man of decency, dignity, warmth, peace, and love. xoxoxoxo, EJ [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/2/20/2154066/-IAN-Tues-Feb-21-2023-Mt-Diablo-Adventure-More-Rain-and-Snow-Below-And-Love-to-Pres-Carter Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
