I am sorry but I don't RESPECT your faith [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-21 Let me start by saying I respect, vote for and fight for the right to follow your faith, and to hold what ever beliefs you choose. (As long as you don’t harm or try to force you beliefs on others) However, I don’t RESPECT you faith. To me faith is not a virtue. Faith is believing something is true without any evidence. Frankly faith terrifies me. The fact that someone believes something is true without evidence, means that there is no evidence, logic, and reason that can change their mind. I am not saying this to insult or belittle any people of faith, I know their are millions of good people of faith in this country, whose faith is a inspiration and source of good in their lives. We have to acknowledge that there are also millions of people who use their faith as a weapon to abuse and control others. At its core faith is just an intellectual tool to understand the world, and like any tool it can be used for good or evil. I think firearms is a good analogy for how I see faith. Guns are just a tool, one that can be used for good or evil, yet they are an incredibly powerful and dangerous tool. I know there are lots of people on this site who think the even though gun do have some positive uses(defending your family or country, and providing food for your table), they are just too dangerous of a tool , and that society would be better off without them. That is how I feel about faith. I am not going to try and force you to give up your faith, but I am also not going to praise your faith as a virtue. When religious people try to claim that I need to respect their faith, what they are really claiming is that I need to acknowledge that faith is a good and positive thing. For a lot of people of faith the fact that I respect and will fight for the right for their faith isn’t enough, I also need praise them and agree that their faith is a positive thing. I’m sorry I just can’t do that. Remember when you demand I respect your faith, you are implicitly insulting and belittling MY “faith” and “beliefs”.
