Trump announces his plan to reform education by having federal government discipline teens [1] ['Daily Kos Staff', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-21 He always seems miserable because he's a miserable person The Republican Party has spent much of its time over the past few years attacking trans children’s rights. And also Black and brown children’s rights. And also LGBTQ teachers’ and parents’ rights. And yes, Black and brown teachers’ and parents’ rights. One of the many ways the conservative movement has done this is to embed its rancor and bigotry into its already existing anti-public education project. This is the project that is, in essence, an attack on labor and teachers but also serves the racism of revising history and education to exclude everyone not named George Washington or Thomas Jefferson or Jefferson Davis.* But the hypocritical party of small government wants you to know that this isn’t a move by the government to take away the basic human rights of American citizens and children. In fact, this is their version of boosting parental rights. But what about the parents of the children who are losing their rights and their history? Shhhh. Get it now? You didn’t answer that question. Shut up. Okay, what about now? The problem is not a new one for the conservative movement, which has spent most of the last four decades saying one thing while doing the opposite. The party of fiscal conservatism and small government isn’t fiscally conservative, isn’t good with budgets, and isn’t good about government overreach. They believe in a very overreaching federal and state government when it comes to intervention in stopping labor organizing, in taking away reproductive rights, in anti-consumer protections, and in disenfranchising their opposition from the democratic process. On Monday, Trump released his version of a Republican education reform policy. It is perfectly fascistic and does away with all of the pretend parental rights the Republican Party has been giving lip service to. It’s about putting kids in prison. Seriously. That’s the plan.
