Musings for Friday - Grand Jurors Speaking Out [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-24 Admit it. You took one look at Emily and thought to yourself "Ozark" or "Deliverance". If you say you didn’t think it, you’re only fooling yourself. And you had a little bit of confirmation when you found out she wasn’t a voter. And THEN, THEN… you heard her say she went all FANGIRL over Rudy. OMG! Rudy! Well, if you’ve ever tried to get off Jury Duty, you might be partly to blame for a Emily Kohrs being the foreperson of a Grand Jury of such great significance. Or… maybe not. Maybe Ms. Kohrs is exactly who Fulton County DA Fanni Willis wanted on this Grand Jury, someone who wasn’t a rabid Democratic or Republican partisan. What we think or what Barbara McQuade thinks about Ms. Kohrs speaking out doesn’t matter, yesterday Judge Robert McBurney, the judge who oversaw the Grand Jury said Emily Kohrs and all the other members of the Grand Jury could talk all they wanted. As long as they didn’t discuss their deliberations. (Interesting side note. I can’t find a headline discussing the judges comments from yesterday. If you know of one, please link to it to appease the cynics.) We aren’t used to members of a Grand Jury speaking out because we think of Grand Juries being discreet, behind closed doors. Normally, that might be true. But normally a judge doesn’t push for a Grand Jury’s findings to be made public either. (If you’re an attorney and know this is actually more routine than we the public think it is, please point out how common it is. The rest of us would like to be better informed.) Judge Robert McBurney seems to have pushed for the Grand Jury info to be public. Allowing the Grand Jury members to speak out may be another way for him to push Fulton County DA Fanni Willis to move things along. Or as my daddy used to say; “Shit! Or get off the pot!” If the judge isn’t going to stop the members of the Grand Jury from talking to the media or anyone else, it appears the Fulton County DA is in no position to stop them either. So get ready to hear more. And if there’s one or more Trump leaning members of this Grand Jury out there, be prepare to see them on Fox and the rest of the MAGA “news” outlets. Have a great weekend!
