IAN: February 26, 2023 - It's still winter [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-25 It snowed on Wednesday and was too cold for it to melt on Thursday and Friday. No mail either of those days. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! ************************* Photographs from the California Gold Rush. Archaeologists in China have found a flush toilet that predates the Han dynasty. Tynemouth’s Holocaust safe house for girls from the Kindertransport. They didn’t know epilepsy isn’t contagious. This is apparently the explanation for a rather odd burial in ancient Sardinia. How pets tell you they love you. Experiments that may have solved a Chaco Canyon mystery. A history of Worcestershire sauce. Cars designed in the style of famous architects. ************************* Monday and Tuesday weren’t very exciting. Wednesday, it spent most of the day trying to snow. I could tell from traffic that there were places it was sticking around town, but it didn’t succeed in doing so where I live till about 3:30 in the afternoon. I would have said it was too warm to stick, but by about 4:15, there was close to an inch. I did some grocery shopping and forgot entirely to buy fruit. I’ve run out, but another couple of days won’t kill me. Actually, my daughter has no intention of letting me go anywhere — it’s her car, I’m not going to argue — but she went yesterday and got me some fruit. My big jaunt on Wednesday was to Visionworks at the Lloyd Center to order a couple of pairs of glasses. My prescription has barely changed since 2001, but a couple of pairs of glasses that I have, I have had long enough that the frames are trying to give up the ghost. Thursday and Friday were snow days for Portland Public Schools. I hear it is going to snow again. ************************* Love you guys!
