Why we simply can't have a better country: the intractable Left/Right divide [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-27 In some ways, the "Left vs Right" battle is actually all fake. It's all Kabuki theater. It's a battle of realities but not constructive. Mostly we constantly hear what amounts to conspiracy theories about the Left wanting to flood the country with Marxist/Socialism and take over everything using election fraud and the Deep State then force a "woke agenda" down everyone's throat while secretly plotting to steal the blood of raped children and yadda yadda yadda. I'm on the Left and have been here for while. Simply put: none of that nonsense is true. What the Left truly wants IMO is better healthcare for all. They want the Voting Rights Act restored, and for every legal citizen to be able to vote if they choose. They don't want undocumented citizens voting on State and National elections. They don't want voter fraud, and if the evidence for it is actually legitimate - they'll be right there with the RIght arguing against it. They want to fix our broken national Infrastructure. They want people to have jobs with a living wage and decent worker protections. They want police reform that continues to protect the public while ending police overreach and violence. They want justice reform that actually does punish the guilty, but does so in a way that is fair and proportional regardless of income, race, gender or any other status. They want reasonable regulations that let business flourish but again, also protects the public from malfeasance and avoidable accidents. They want every citizen to have the freedom to be *Who They Are* be that a Woman, Black, Latino, Muslim or LGBTQ and for their Civil Rights to be protected. And that's basically it. These desires are not unreasonable and not unachievable. They're also extremely popular and poll between 60-70% with the general public so they also aren't at all "from the fringe." The Right is a different story. [Admittedly this is my perspective on the RIght, but I have what I have.] [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/2/27/2154976/-Why-we-simply-can-t-have-a-better-country Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
