Just for Fun: Sousa's March Mania, 10th Anniversary Season [1]

The man himself, John Philip Sousa, the March King, and probably most famous director of "The President's Own".

Do you love marches and band music? Did you play in band? Are you Marine? Do you enjoy filling out tournament brackets, just not for basketball? Do you just like voting in online contests? Do you need a break from the ever changing world in which we live in? If you answered yes to any of those, March Mania is back again for 2023. Presented by the US Marine Band, the competition pits 32 great marches performed by a great ensemble against each other in a single-elimination tournament on weekdays in the month of March. Get it? Marches? In March?

The band has been presenting this event for 10 years now, showcasing some great marches from around the world in military, parade, circus, concert and even film traditions. For this 10th Anniversary season — and I suspect also in recognition of the Band’s completion of the project to record all of Sousa’s 100+ finished marches — all 32 march contestants are John Philip Sousa compositions.

Last year’s April 1st winner reveal was actually exciting! The band performed the winning march live on YouTube from the John Philip Sousa Band Hall. I’ll link that video at the end.
