When Trumpists tell you that they want to “make America great again” they mean for white people... x .@BryanCranston explains to Chris Wallace why “MAGA” is a racist remark. (So well done, worth a watch.) pic.twitter.com/c3SdlyzFwe — Kaivan Shroff (@KaivanShroff) February 25, 2023 When Jefferson wrote “all men are created equal” he meant white men... The Democratic and Republican parties have both been up to their eyeballs in racism and white supremacy for much of American history… Almost all of our founding fathers and most of the Presidents we’ve elected since were bigots. Through World War II, racism was widespread North and South of the Mason-Dixon Line. This persisted until passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act when Southern racists left the Democratic party permanently. Nonetheless, racism maintained a foothold in the Democratic party and among their voters for decades. When the right wing tells you they want their country back, that’s the one they are referring to… Today’s conservative purports to support life, liberty, freedom, God, decency, the Constitution, law, small government, fiscal responsibility, the American family, rural Americans, and the little guy… Some of them probably do. Yet they persistently vote for a bunch of rich racist white fucks who consistently reduce neither the National Debt nor the Federal Deficit, violate the Constitution and our laws, attack civil rights, suppress opposition, oppress minorities, and enrich themselves while exploiting the poor. Leaders whose plan for shrinking our government is to fire anybody that stands in their way, including their own… Quinnipiac A majority of Americans (55 percent) think Donald Trump has had a mainly negative impact on the Republican Party, while 37 percent think he has had a mainly positive impact. Republicans 70 - 24 percent think Trump has had a mainly positive impact on their party. Roughly one-third of Americans (35 percent) consider themselves supporters of Donald Trump's Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, while 60 percent do not consider themselves supporters. Nearly 8 in 10 Republicans (79 percent) consider themselves supporters of the MAGA movement, while 16 percent do not. If my math is correct, then over 100 million United States Citizens still buy Trump’s bullshit… These people have always been here. At times they have been less vocal. At other times they have been cowed. Lately they feel emboldened… Every one of these a-holes… Trump, Desantis, Pence, and all of their followers see themselves as the torchbearers of an America that has been slowly taken away from them… And they’re right! That torch has been passed down to them from father to son through the generations. It was handed down through Reconstruction, the New Deal, and the Civil Rights movement. What fuels it today is what sparked it in the first place... Racism and White Supremacy. We have always been in the midst of a civil war... It has been ongoing since the end of hostilities in 1865. We’ve long heard their taunt that “The South Shall Rise Again”. Jim Crow, the KKK, segregation, lynchings, the rise of the Tea Party and militia movements, MAGA, the election of Trump, and the insurrection are all just facets of a war that’s been left on simmer for 150 years. It doesn’t matter if they’re ancestors were slaveholders, abolitionists, or immigrants… The Trumpists of today are simply a resurgence of an old faction that has regained control of a major political party. Nevertheless, these people are not their leaders. Their leaders’ only objective is to exploit them for personal and political gain. Our objective today is to prevent what has been a cold war from becoming a hot one. These people are your neighbors, your co-workers, your friends, or maybe even your family. Wherever you might be, you run the chance of meeting them. They are in every profession, and every walk of life. They are not, however, ALL insurrectionists, seditionists, and terrorists. They’re not ALL racists and fascists… They’re not mindless robots... “It can’t be bargained with, it can’t be reasoned with… It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear; and it absolutely will not stop… EVER!” — Kyle Reese, Terminator, 1984 No matter what you think, or say, or do… Trump voters aren’t going anywhere… EVER! That is the reality we live in. Some of them are just going with the flow... They may be gullible fools who vote against their own and this nation’s best interests; but we’re stuck with them. They are your countrymen, your fellow Americans, and you’re going to have to deal with that. This nation has been dealing with their type since it’s founding. They may be many things, but most of them are not your enemy… Yes, we need to root out the violent criminal elements; but despite their ungodly love for guns, most of them are as law abiding as you and me. They don’t really want civil war… They want the same thing you want, and that is for the world to quit stressing them the fuck out. It almost seems as if what they really want at the moment is justification for spending all their money prepping. I hope if the shit ever really hits the fan a lot of these gun lovers will run for their bunkers or basements and spend the duration defending their canned goods. We need to engage these people… Particularly those of us who are white. Odds are most of us have racists in our family trees, and if not we’ve all benefited from systemic racism. These White Supremacists are a part of our history and heritage, and they are therefore our responsibility… We need to engage them, individually, on whichever subjects we can find common ground: Social Security, Medicare, pooties, woozles, or just not killing each other… Shame and ridicule are not going to change their minds... In fact, it might make things worse… We all know their conspiracy theories and pseudo science are bullshit. Don’t doubt for a moment that they know that too. It’s all just drummed up cover for their real beef… They have become a minority in the country that was once exclusively their forebears’. America is changing around them and they fear they might one day have no place in it. It is not helpful to suggest violating their Constitutional rights or disenfranchising them. It is not helpful to wish misfortune or physical harm on political opponents. It is not helpful to dehumanize people. It is not helpful to generalize large groups of people. It’s also not helpful to entertain their pipe dream of a “national divorce”… If we alienate and ostracize these people we will push them towards the civil war we wish to avoid. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to defend them, I’m just trying to explain them. I’m guilty myself of referring to the former President as an idiot and a douchebag. It’s hard not to… I’m coming to realize it’s not a productive path to resolving our problem. It’s a hard habit to break. Still, we need to rein in our own hate speech, curb conspiracy theories and false news stories coming from our side, and check misinformation and disinformation no matter who is spreading it. We need to recognize when it is we who are spreading discord and divisiveness. None of this is going to stop me from calling out bigotry, though... Racism is not a problem unique to America. It’s a worldwide issue that fuels much of the religious strife we’ve discussed previously. It’s seems that just about everybody has some reason to hate. Racism is usually based on hate or fear or ignorance and the only solution is education. The only way to educate someone is through communication, and it’s our job to do it. Fortunately, our founding racists created this nation on the liberal ideals of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, the separation of church and state, and the right to due process and equality under the law. This country has come a long way on those ideals in last 246 years. They are ideals we should strive to maintain, for ALL Americans, even if they’re racist dipshits who don’t understand America. Link No nationality has a monopoly on wrong or right. Neither does any political party. All the squabbling serves only to divide us. The wars and oppression and hate and destruction needs to come to an end. I think that is something we can all agree on. The PROBLEMS this world currently faces affect every organism on this planet. As a species we have a greater impact on this bubble of life we’ve been provided than any other. Our biosphere is just 11 miles thick... I hope you can all understand that despite our differences, we need to get along. The survival of our species depends on it. I initially pulled this post after 15 minutes or so of inactivity. From my perspective it appeared there was zero interest. After doing so I noticed it somehow had 3 recs. I apologize for any confusion my actions might have caused.
