Disney is not leaving Florida. I wanted to comment at the time but I was in Kos jail for a satirical comment on another diary. So, I’m doing my own diary on the topic. Disney World is in Central Florida because of weather. They can stay open all year around. Disney isn’t moving to blue New York or Minnesota. Texas is no better than Florida politically. Nor are those states just north of the panhandle. Not only are they worse politically, except possibly Georgia, but they have terrible weather. Have you noticed all the severe storms, including tornadoes and hail storms going through there on their way up I-95 to the northeast? As for Disney World drowning due to climate change, it is 125 feet about sea-level. The mouse won’t be drowning in this century or the next. DeSantis had to cancel his rushed law to turn over infrastructure maintenance and debt to two Florida counties. He got a symbolic win on appointing oversight board members so he could declare victory. https://www.curbed.com/2023/03/ron-desantis-disney-takeover-reedy-creek.html The rights Disney lost were those they never used like building an airport or nuclear power plant. Don’t worry that DeSantis will force Disney to backdown on it’s political support for the LBGTQ+ community or tippy toe around gender and racial issue. The board does not have the power to dictate the content that Disney offers to its customers. DeSantis will flame out and be long gone from the political scene before Disney leaves Florida. DeSantis roared, but he lost to the mouse. I agree that DeSantis is one scary dude and would be worse than Trump. But let’s stop the nonsense that Trump is losing his base. Think back to 2015, one year before the 2016 race began. Today, Trump has a much tighter grip on the GOP now than he did then. The only chance DeSantis or anyone else of being the GOP 2024 Presidential nominee is if Trump dies from a stroke or heart attack. If he is alive, even if in prison or on life support, Trump will be the nominee. If Trump is at his golf course, six feet under, I don’t know who the nominee will be, but I’ll bet it isn’t DeSantis.
