Just another diary praising Daily Kos [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-03-05 21 years ago (good grief!) I was a regular poster on Democratic Underground, one of the first “social media” sites for Democratic voters and/or liberals. I was extremely happy to have found DU, because I live in the Deep South, so didn’t have much in common with my friends, family, neighbors when it came to politics. It was great to visit DU every day and exchange news & ideas with other people just like me! One day the DU community was talking & arguing about something a particular guy said, one Markos Moulitsas, on his new site, Daily Kos. I had never heard of this Moulitsas guy, so went to check it out. I can’t remember what controversy Markos had stirred up that time, but I liked his site, a lot, a lot more than DU, so joined the DK community (different member name in those days.) I was SO proud to be part of the Daily Kos community, especially as we were one of the most trafficked political websites in the US….maybe in the world. I even attended Netroots Nation in Austin, and was thrilled to meet Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore, Gavin Newsom, the “stars” of the liberal-blogging community, and Markos himself. Altho I had heard a little about Barack Obama, that Netroots Nation was the first time that I heard he was making plans to run for the Presidency. Van Jones told us that Barack Obama WOULD be our first black president, and as hard as we would work to elect him, we would have to work even harder to have his back….once he was elected. I was electrified. Imagine! Being a part of something so momentous, so historical, so exciting! I’m a retired teacher who was part of the contract negotiating team when my parish (county) teachers went out on strike and WON…..the first time THAT had happened in my conservative state! My husband was always a union member in his pipeliners/pipefitters union, so I support unions bigly….but not unconditionally. It depends on the issues & circumstances. I understand the importance of unions historically and believe absolutely in the right of workers to unionize. Having read about the issues & circumstances of this Daily Kos/union dispute….and realizing how important Daily Kos has been to my liberal existence, over the past years….I must say that I trust Markos to do what is right for his community as a whole. And I must say to Markos….thank you for the years. Also, I would add that it is up to us to financially support this site that has been so much of a part of our lives. Rant off. Thanks.
