Sunday Morning Open Thread: Some Cat Stevens Songs from Harold and Maude [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-03-05 Good morning, folks. I hope everyone is doing well. Before we get started Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum. Please join us. I was idly looking over my Youtube page when one of the suggestions was for a free viewing of the movie Harold and Maude. I haven’t seen that cult classic since college. Has anyone here not seen it? If yes, it’s dark/quirky comedy about a 19 year old man (Bud Cort) who is obsessed with death and a 79 year old woman (Ruth Gordon) who is full of life. Comedy—and growth—ensue. Now I’m kicking myself for missing my chance to rewatch it free. One thing I do remember about the film is the soundtrack by Cat Stevens. (The artist is now known as Yusuf Islam.) At first Elton John was hired to do the soundtrack but he soon learned his music wouldn’t be right for the film. He quit, and instead suggested Stevens. I can’t imagine the movie without his mellow sound. Stevens composed the first two of these pieces special for the film. Only later were they released. The subsequent ones were borrowed from other albums. This is, as always, an open thread.
