The World is Ending, Be Nice [1]

A friend posted a weary "the world is going to hell in a handbasket and we can't stop it" post, ending with "Our next generation will witness ... the collapse of our civilization. Civilizations have collapsed before."

I replied:

And yet we all, each and every individual of us can fix some small things in our own minuscule worlds. And those worlds are all interconnected. No one of us may have The Answer, but we can each supply some answers. AS LONG AS WE DON'T GIVE UP.

Hard as hell not to give up some days.

But if we all try--every last one of us, we might not solve the world's ills, we may not save the planet, we may not eliminate racism and greed in our lifetimes, but we will make the world one helluva nicer place to fight those battles in.
