I relaxed on COVID defense. Now my wife is in the hospital because of me. [1]

No, the pandemic is not over, despite what the media claims.

A day ago my wife collapsed and was taken to the Hermann Hospital here in houston via ambulance. The diagnosis? She has COVID pneumonia, and it’s all my fault. We both had gotten our 2 doses of vaccine, as well as the 2 booster doses, so I let down my guard. I stopped wearing masks in public places, stopped using hand sanitizer, stopped distancing, and stopped doing all the things you are supposed to do to fight COVID. I caught the virus and brought it home and gave it to her. So now my wife is paying the price for my negligence. The good news is that we ARE both vaxxed and boosted, and the doctor says that it is the reason her illness is not a lot worse than it is. She is getting oxygen at this time, and the doctor says she will be able to come home in a few days.

Do you hear that banging and booming sound in the background? Don’t worry. It’s just me. I am kicking my ass. But, seriously, I am going to preach to the rest of you now. According to the mainstream media, the COVID crisis is over. It’s NOT. More than a thousand people here in the USA are still dying from it every single day. Don’t be me and ignore the problem like I did. Mask up, keep your distance, and use the hand sanitizer religiously. I am thankful that my wife of more than 50 years will be coming home instead of going to a mortuary because of my absolute stupidity. I put my wife, as well as my coworkers, my band mates, and the general public at risk because I refused to follow protocol. For me, this has been an education I will never forget, and after the next 5 days of my isolation for COVID, I will go back to doing what I did for so long, before I decided that I didn’t need to do these things anymore.

Although I blame myself primarily, there is plenty of blame to go around. I won’t say it’s all their fault because they didn’t put a gun to my head and order me to remove my mask. I performed this shitshow all on my own. However, the mass media is culpable for giving the impression that it was all over and we could now do pretty much anything we wanted. The antivaxxers are also culpable, as they are killing others with their attitudes. And, finally, if YOU are doing the same thing I did, then YOU are also culpable because of your negligence. Once again, don’t be me. Let me rephrase that: Don’t be the old me. Be the new me.

NOTE: When Carol comes home, there is going to be a box of chocolates waiting for her.
