White to move Mate in two #293 Humble but Lovable [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-03-14 *all chess puzzles provided by DKos member lobachevsky* SIU I remember another chess game, the guy was older than me, we'd played before, and he was good. I think I was sorta stoned and a little drunk. I made a stupid move, he replied, and I realized it was all over. I was going to concede but I figured, be nice -- lose graciously. All I could do was put his King in check to prevent an immediate demise. Four times I put his King in check, and yet every time he studied the board, looking and thinking. I'd get another beer. As if by magic he would take my hopeless piece (eventually) each time. Circumstance being crueler than coincidence, after my fourth check what did I see? I had him in two! He took my checking piece, I made the first move toward my impossible opportunity, and he pushed a pawn -- So i says I does, striking the fatal blow, checkmate. Would you believe, he got up and shook my hand. He was ecstatic! "That was the greatest most amazing game ever!" I was humbly polite. * Chip in to support Daily Kos. Give it a thought.
