Super-PAC follies: Trump PAC attacks DeSantis PAC [1]

It turns out that Governor DeSantis is term-limited. Furthermore, if he is to run for President he has to resign from his cushy position as Governor.

[The Trump-affiliated PAC] Make America Great Again Inc. is filing a 15-page complaint Wednesday with the Florida Commission on Ethics, a draft of which was obtained exclusively by NBC News.

They observe that DeSantis can’t run again for Governor — yet his PAC is still raising money ostensibly for his own personal interest because he cannot run for Governor again. (Technically he’s limited to eight years in any twelve year period.)

[From the 15-page complaint:] There is strong evidence that Governor Ron DeSantis has engaged in illegal conduct pursuant to: (1) Section 112.313(2) of the Florida Statutes (prohibition on solicitation and acceptance of gifts); (2) Article II, Section 8(h)(2) of the Florida Constitution with his wrongful intent evidenced by his violations of the Federal Campaign Finance Act of 1971, Section 112.31485 of the Florida Statutes (prohibition on gifts from political committees), and Section 112.3215 of the Florida Statutes (prohibition on accepting illegal lobbying payments); (3) Section 112.313(6) of the Florida Statutes (prohibition on misuse of public position); and (4) Section 112.313(7) of the Florida Statutes (prohibition on conflicting employment or contractual relationships).

There might actually be merit to the complaint. Unfortunately for Trump & Company, the Florida Ethics Commission (to whom the complaint was made) is Ron’s baby. I cannot see how they would rule against him.

It is fun, however, to watch them go at it.

It is my fervent hope that DeSantis resigns to run sooner instead of later, but I have every expectation that the Florida Governor will wait until the last possible moment to relinquish the reins of power.
