Baseball started yesterday, Batter Up! Betting site nj.bet offers their ranking of major league ballparks, which includes a survey of the price of beer. Drinking at sports and concert events is notoriously expensive but some places are a lot better than others. The most affordable beverages are at Coors Field (Rockies), Angel Stadium (Angels) and Chase Field (Diamondbacks), where the average beer is under $5, and after that 9 venues are tied with an average of exactly $5. At a Yankees game you’ll only pay $6, but the Mets have the highest average price at $12, with the two Chicago teams close behind. [I hate keeping track of who the sponsor is this year for all these places. Who plays in Globe Life Park? What about American Family Field? It’s sad that Milwaukee has no actual brewers anymore.] Of course, if your motivation is price, you’re drinking stuff that I avoid unless someone else is buying. The stadiums or arenas where I go sock you hard for the good craft beer. From what I’ve heard Chase Center in SF (home of the Golden State Warriors) is the highest with beer hitting $20, we think that’s $2 higher than anyplace else nearby. Not like $18 is reasonable. For that price you’re getting a large can of a premium strong ale, often Elysian Space Dust or another double IPA. I haven’t seen those large cans in stores, but all the games and concerts have them, I think it’s 19.2 ounces. — I’m starting with the old reliable Founders All Day IPA. After that I have Liquid Gravity IPA (speaking of expensive beer) or Hazy Little Thing. What are you drinking? Anyone brewing?
