Jeb! proves the GOP is a party of spineless, political meth addicts [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-01 Today, the past spoke to the present - and it was craven. Jeb Bush, a scion of an old-time political dynasty, the brother and son of a President, and the grandson of a Connecticut senator addressed the news de jour. He came down squarely on the side of anarchy. In a tweet, he said of the Trump indictment, “This is very political, not a matter of justice. In this case, let the jury be the voters.” And yet another Republican loses his mind to MAGA. x Bragg’s predecessor didn’t take up the case. The Justice Department didn’t take up the case. Bragg first said he would not take up the case. This is very political, not a matter of justice. In this case, let the jury be the voters. — Jeb Bush (@JebBush) April 1, 2023 You have to think that Trumpism is an addiction. Like meth addicts, these spineless apologists and enablers have sacrificed decency, self-respect, and reputation. They cannot seem to help themselves. I am no psychologist, and perhaps chemical addiction is a poor analogy. Maybe they are more like men who enjoy being whipped and humiliated by a dominatrix. Bearing that in mind, let us look at what he says. Does it matter what previous or other prosecutors did or did not do? No. It is not unusual for many people to get something wrong before one gets it right. In the 1930s, many Americans, including most Republican politicians, thought the US should let Hitler do what he wanted in Europe. Luckily for Western democracy, FDR had a clearer moral vision. He stood up for what was right. His argument gets worse. “Bragg first said he would not take up the case.” What is his point? Doesn't Bragg’s original decision not to pursue the case show the Manhattan DA is not a political animal? Occam’s razor points to new evidence, not political animus as the motivation for this indictment. Jeb is also wrong. In 2022, Bragg declined to prosecute Trump and his Organization for criminally misleading banks and insurers — not for paying off porn stars and trying to disguise the fact. I do not know if Bush is a liar or just misinformed — however, neither is a good look. Then Jeb ends with a whimper, “let the jury be the voters.” His use of the passive voice points to private schools. If I am correct in surmising that he is trying to say that an election should decide Trump's guilt, a clearer statement would have been, “let the voters be the jury.” If he does mean that, we might as well get rid of court trials for allegedly corrupt politicians and present the matter to people driven by passion, not facts. Note: the Constitution does not offer this appeal to the masses as an option. Jeb is drinking the Kool-Aid. He has joined the choir of 2016 losers — a sad group of beta men (the only woman in the bunch, Carly Fiorina, has never sucked up ) — who have decided to carry Trump’s water. I understand party loyalty. I also get that politics is an elbow-throwing business. The contestants enter the arena and bloody each other until a winner is declared. But this addiction to obeisance is pathetic and unmanly. Trump did not just insult his primary opponents’ positions and abilities. He chewed up and spat out wives and fathers. And in Jeb’s case, his brother. Although I will grant you that, as two of his family were politicians, they were fair game. But his mother? As Jeb said in 2016, “I am sick and tired of him [Trump] going after my family. “My dad is the greatest man alive in my mind. While Donald Trump was building a reality TV show, my brother was building a security apparatus to keep us safe. I’m proud of what he did. Bush also lashed out at Trump for having “the gall to go after my mother,” adding: “I won the lottery when I was born 63 years ago, looked up and saw my mom. My mom is the strongest woman I know.” I suspect a still-living Barbara Bush would have called Jeb and ripped him a new one. Mothers love their sons and will forgive much, but they generally want their little boys to mature into men with a backbone. Jeb ' please clap ' Bush was never much of a man in the first place. It is one reason he found a home in the 21st-century Republican party. It is embarrassing to live in a country where one political party is a bunch of gay-hating milquetoasts whose media shill, Tucker Carlson, is a fan of homoerotic testicle tanning . But there you have it.
