What happened?

One thing that strikes me as Trump is indicted and his world comes crashing down against reality is how many people DON’T WANT any part of reality. When you think about it after Trump took over the totality of the GOP agenda shifted to “sell everyone a fantasy of better times and victimhood.” To do that though means lying about obvious things and borrowing hate and evil to force your ideas on people through fear. I mean the pace at which GOP leaders were willing to trade power for Qanon Shamanism and overt White Nationalism was amazing, but even more amazing was that about half the country either quietly endorsed it or actually started paying big bucks to support it. I think racism was part of it, unfortunately I think evangelicalism was as much a part of it in that the kind of religious dogmatism of that world attached itself to the messiah complex in Trump. But what does it say about us, about the U.S., that half of us want zero part in reality and are willing to pay the college savings for our kids, or even go to jail attacking other innocent people to maintain a fantasy world we can feel guilt-free in because it’s always THEIR fault. “They” being whoever the flavor of the hate is that month.

I think reality is crazy, it scares me. But I deal with it and do the best I can. I indulge in fantasy quite often, in that I love to read Sci-Fi novels and play strategy games on my computer, sometimes I even use cheat codes... But I go to work at a public school. Lots of reality there if you know what I mean. Children always seem to reflect reality in a purer way than adults. They don’t have as many filters or coping strategies, what affects them can’t help but affect you. But I’m not afraid of my job, it’s the part of my life that gives me true meaning and hope I am doing something positive in reality.

Why can’t the Trumpers find fantasy worlds that are not so harmful? Why can’t they contribute to society and try to make it better rather than giving up and assuming the end of the world is near and buy guns just in case everything they are afraid of comes after them in some apocalypse.

I know I’m generalizing, and there are a lot of conservatives that would like to help people though maybe in a different way, but still, not maliciously. It just seems to be dark times for them.

I’m sorry but I really don’t get it.
