Waiting For Merrick Garland, Jack Smith, And The DOJ To Indict #FPOTUS Might Be Discouraging To Some [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-01 Such a happy child... Trump’s indictment in the Stormy Daniels hush money fraud case is evidence that these things take time... It took 246 years, 8 months, and 26 days for us to get here; but we’ve finally arrived. A new chapter in American history lies before us... One where money, power, and status can no longer be completely depended upon to shield the affluent criminals among us from the consequences of their own actions. In a country built of, by, and for the benefit of rich white bigots a former President; himself an allegedly rich, white racist asshole; was indicted by a New York grand jury for committing some 30 odd crimes... This indictment comes 6 years and 5 months after Trump’s Attorney Michael Cohen made the scandalous $130,000 payoff for Ms. Clifford’s silence just one month before the 2016 Presidential election. It comes 4 years, 10 months, and 27 days after the dumbfuck himself acknowledged the payment on his official government Twitter account. Donald Trump will likely spend his remaining time on Earth under indictment. Dude will turn 77 in June if he makes it that far, which leaves us at most 20 maybe 25 years to enjoy watching him squirm on the hot seat. Knowing his penchant for obstruction, delay, and endless appeals he could easily drag this shit out for the next couple of decades. After his arraignment on Tuesday an epic and costly legal battle will ensue that despite it’s unprecedented nature will not go down in history as the trial of the century... That will finally come when the former President faces justice for undermining our electoral process and attempting to upend our democracy. A bit of hay is currently being made that the DOJ possessed for years the same evidence Alvin Bragg used to indict Trump. As of yet there’s no way we can know that for sure. By all accounts, the grand jury spent months investigating this matter. They may very well have uncovered new evidence or extracted fresh testimony that Robert Mueller’s investigation failed to gleen. I just don’t know, and that’s why I think it’s prudent that we wait and see what #FPOTUS is being charged with and what the evidence actually consists of. Everybody’s always in such a hurry… On April 25th Trump goes on trial in one of two civil suits alleging battery and defamation for statements he made about E. Jean Carroll who accused him of raping her in a department store dressing room back in the 90’s. Trump has threatened to sue the presiding judge in the case so it promises to be quite entertaining. In Georgia a criminal grand jury is poring over the evidence discovered during the special grand jury investigation. That presentation that is likely to take just as long the second time around. Will Fani Willis be able to get an indictment before the Republicans in the state legislature strip her of power? Who can tell at this point? Rushing the process certainly has the potential to compromise any subsequent prosecution… In the State of New York a trial is scheduled to begin on October 2nd in a $250 million civil fraud case against Trump, the Trump organization, 60% of his offspring, and others. It is alleged that for decades they manipulated the value of assets to receive loans and avoid taxes. The organization’s former financial chief Allen Wesselberg is already jailed and recently cut ties with Trump’s lawyers. A lot of time and resources went into these cases... For the last two years it has been lamented that the Department of Justice isn’t even investigating #FPOTUS. Once evidence came to light that they were indeed investigating #FPOTUS along with the insurrectionists, the wailing morphed into accusations that the DOJ was just pretending to investigate and had no intention of charging #FPOTUS. When Merrick Garland appointed Jack Smith as Special Counsel to take over the federal investigations into #FPOTUS there were accusations that he was passing the buck, further delaying justice. Those closest to Trump near the end of his Presidency are now being forced to comply with grand jury subpoenas, yet the frantic pleas for an indictment continue... The timing of the DOJ actions has been spot on... It would be unrealistic for us to expect charges for #FPOTUS until the Feds have questioned those closest to Trump... under oath... in front of a grand jury. Trump’s lawyers have been ordered to hand over notes and recordings regarding his theft of 184 classified government documents; 25 of which were marked "top secret", 92 as "secret", and 67 as "confidential"; which were discovered during a raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort home last August. The testimony of Trump cronies like Mike Pence, Mark Meadows, Rudy Giuliani, and Roger Stone will undoubtedly lead to further lines of inquiry and cross checking of facts before the DOJ indicts #FPOTUS… Gathering evidence takes time... Thursday’s news was met with a mix of reactions by those who thought a Trump indictment would never come. Some were jubilant, some were wary, and some continued spouting pessimism that Trump would ever be held accountable for inciting an insurrection. On a certain level I get that… These were heinous crimes... It’s been over two years since assholes stormed our nation’s Capitol Building. For a chunk of that time a bunch of those a-holes have had their asses parked in a jail cell, and more are headed that way. 386 of the 997 insurrectionists charged federally have yet to plead guilty or have their day in court. Of the 447 already sentenced, 57% received jail time. So far investigations into these “foot soldiers” have not lead to direct ties between Trump and his worshipers or proven their collaboration with his inner circle. It’s unfortunate, but it also seems to be a fact. Justice must follow the facts... In time many more facts will be established... Investigators have closed in on the cronies and they’re being forced to talk. Will one of them crack or slip up? Who fucking knows? All it takes is to catch them in a lie then they’re on the hook for perjury. Does anyone really think Pence, Meadows, Giuliani, Stone, or anyone else is willing to go to jail to protect asshole number one? The insurrectionists sure the fuck weren’t… Every one of them points the finger straight at Trump. Indicting a former President of the United States has ramifications… Some good, some bad. You just know the Republicans are gonna seek to impeach and criminally indict the first Democratic President they get their claws into. They’re probably formulating schemes already hoping to take down President Biden. If you thought the Benghazi hearings were bad, just wait. But if future Presidents have to endure increased scrutiny, that might not prove to be all bad. Time will tell... Unfortunately, indicting this particular #FPOTUS has the potential to result in civil unrest the likes of which this nation hasn’t seen for lo on damn near twenty seven months now… Feels like just a couple of years. Thankfully, further violence hasn’t erupted yet. Doesn’t mean it won’t, but I see no reason that would impede the work Garland, Smith, and DOJ investigators are getting done. We’re getting close to the endgame in the federal probe of the vainglorious djt. Thursday gave us just a sweet taste of the delicious schadenfreude that awaits us in the weeks, months, and yes probably years ahead. Inevitably, a day will come when we no longer have defendant Trump to kick around anymore. On that glorious day some people will have to find themselves a new boogieman to fret about.
