Pizza

Right or wrong, everybody has an opinion about pizza.

Approximately 3 BILLION pizzas are sold in the U.S. each year.

One summer when I was in HS, I ate pizza every day at a pizza place, with some equally obsessed buddies. This was excessive enough that I ate it only sporadically for years. When we moved to Sonoma County we used to take our kids to Old Chicago Pizza in Petaluma, providing a very thick and delicious product, still good to this day. So many restaurant pizzas have been disappointing, especially the chains.

We began receiving mail coupons for Papa Murphy's bake-it-yourself pizza and we have ordered from there for years; prices, however, have kept rising. It’s still our favorite.The company and its franchisees operate more than 1,300 outlets in the United States, Canada and the United Arab Emirates. Since it’s a franchise, some are better than others…..for sure.

One of our most unusual pizzas was in Morocco, when our tour group voted to go to a local place. I ordered an anchovy pizza, since I always like some on every pizza I eat. Well, Morocco is currently the world’s largest exporter of canned sardines and semi-preserved anchovies. When I say there were a lot of anchovies on that pizza, you have no idea. Fortunately there was beer available.

Sauce, cheese, pepperoni, etc on a basic pizza, but there’s so much more: 100 gourmet pizza toppings.

Two things I’ve never done…..use an ATM, and order a pizza delivery. Maybe someday.

One of our relatives bought an outdoor pizza oven. Gets really hot. He cooks a pizza in 90 seconds. Pretty good, actually.

How often do you eat pizza? Order delivery? Make it yourself? Favorite topping? Worst topping? Do you like pineapple on pizza? Thick or thin crust? Deep dish or stuffed? Round or square? Truffles? Caviar? Hummus?
