Why the New York Indictment Really Matters

It is only Monday and we don’t know what the indictment means. However, it may be the most important one. We all know that Donald Trump is a slimeball. We know that Al Capone went to prison for tax evasion, which was probably the least important of all of his crimes. But nonetheless, he was caught, and prosecuted and convicted.

Is the Georgia case a more important case. Absolutely! Could a good prosecutor win a conviction with what is available? Absolutely. Is attempting to undermine the ballots of millions of Georgians more important than a shady payoff? Absolutely. However, Georgia politicians are already working the political system to undermine the prosecutor. And, we can say with almost certainty, if that strategy does not work, the Governor will pardon him and give him a clean record within minutes of a guilty verdict. So that goes poof.

Similarly, is attempting a coup or insurrection more important than a shady payoff? Absolutely. But like Georgia, the slimy politicians in Washington are working hard to undermine those efforts. Whether that is to undermine the funding for the investigation, terminate or impeach the Attorney General, or defund DOJ, the crazy caucus will try anything. And if a Republican is ever elected President their first order of business will be to pardon Trump.

So, the New York case may not be his most heinous crime, but a conviction there may be the best thing that we get.
