DeSantis is entitled to exercise his First Amendment right to free speech, but he has a big problem. “Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda,” said DeSantis. As a projected opponent of Donald Trump for the GOP nomination for President, Governor DeSantis is willing to let his fears of the Trump voting block get in the way of the Constitution and his ambition. The interstate extradition clause, Article 4 Section 2 of the Constitution states: A Person charged in any State with Treason, Felony, or other Crime, who shall flee from Justice, and be found in another State, shall on Demand of the executive Authority of the State from which he fled, be delivered up, to be removed to the State having Jurisdiction of the Crime. The Florida Governor, where Mr. Trump resides, had a ready-made reason to keep quiet and let judicial nature take its course. Instead, he preemptively offered himself up to the Trump acolytes as a sacrifice. Until Tuesday, in a New York courtroom, none of us have seen the contents of the concealed charges against Mr. Trump. Despite the heretofore hidden facts of the case, GOP members of Congress are trying to skirt the law and summon Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to testify about the state’s case against Mr. Trump before Congress. In a letter to Mr. Bragg, authored by Republicans Jim Jordan of Ohio, James Comer of Kentucky, and Bryan Steil of Wisconsin, they are requesting [all] “documents and communications between or among” Bragg’s office and the Justice Department “referring or relating to your office’s investigation of President Donald Trump.” As devotees of Mr. Trump, his supporters are likely to believe the intrusion into Mr. Bragg’s case has a legislative purpose. The problem with that assumption is that the second most powerful Republican in the House, Elise Stefanik, let the cat out of the bag. Rep. Stefanik said she spoke to Trump and briefed him on the House GOP’s plans to aggressively investigate the Manhattan district attorney’s office, leading to speculation of what else the GOP might tell Mr. Trump. Eight of the twelve GOP members of the Select Sub Committee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government voted to overturn the election. Matt Gaetz and the committee chair Jim Jordan are included in that group of unhinged Congressional thinkers, and their loyalty to the Trump mystique is unquestioned. Indirect threats of physical violence and racial taunts match congressional interference promises. In August of 2022, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said there “will be riots in the street” if Trump is charged with stealing government documents. The former President, who will be officially under indictment Tuesday, has alluded to “death and destruction.” Former rep. Jason Chaffetz espoused that the American people find favor in his masked threats “…and that’s why America loves the guy…” said Chaffetz. Mr. Chaffetz has joined the ranks of those with blind fealty to Mr. Trump. Chaffetz once proclaimed he would not expose his 15-year-old daughter to the then-candidate Trump, who famously bragged about groping women, “I can no longer in good conscience endorse this person for president. It is some of the most abhorrent and offensive comments that you can possibly imagine. My wife and I, we have a 15-year-old daughter, and if I can’t look her in the eye and tell her these things, I can’t endorse this person,” said Chaffetz. Maybe it is time for the Republican party to look America in the eye and say, we are sorry.
