Trump's court day will galvanize his base [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-04 With former US President Donald Trump in New York for his court appearance, the nation awaits developments in the case against him. Whatever the charges and whatever the outcome, Trump will benefit from his appearance as he receives free publicity and his base will rally around him in even stronger numbers. The 2024 elections are looming and while the presidential campaign has not yet kicked off, we are already getting a clearer picture of what the race will look like and who the first contenders are for both the Republican and Democratic parties. With Trump at the forefront of the news cycle once again, it is likely this only strengthens his campaign against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former governor of South Carolina and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley. Given the political climate today, it is difficult to see where this all heads, but judging from history, Trump will use his appearance in court as ammunition against the left and another feather in his cap for his campaign. It is also likely that while DeSantis does not seem at this point in time to want to side with the left on this issue and be seen as agreeing with Democrats against Trump, the governor will at some point use Trump’s case as a weapon to benefit his own campaign. Running against Trump will not be easy — for Republican or Democrat contenders — but everyone will focus on this case and try to use it against Trump. It is possible this becomes the final nail in Trump’s coffin — especially if he is convicted. The precariousness of the American political atmosphere today demands a stable president — one who can unify the country and focus on the main issues at hand. Trump is divisive and will further tear the country apart with his misguided worldview and misplaced focus on issues such as the southern border for instance. While US President Joe Biden has been mocked for his age, he has reversed Trump’s policies and brought the nation closer to sanity. His years of experience in Washington, D.C. has contributed greatly to his ability to navigate America through the rough domestic and foreign policies that require a focused gaze to the horizon and a steady hand. Biden has both and together with his team has helped bring America back into the family of nations as a welcome member and not as a mocked guest in international fora when Trump was president. While Trump’s arraignment is a gift to Democrats it is too early to get comfortable. The fight has yet to be won and Trump is still a strong contender in the ring. The circumstances he now finds himself in may galvanize himself as well as his supporters to push even stronger and fight for the White House in 2024. His trial and the accusations against him notwithstanding, Trump may yet emerge victorious — at least in the eyes of his supporters. And that may be enough. Many Republicans have shrugged their shoulders at the accusations against Trump. To them, it is anyone but a Democrat in the White House. If it is Trump, then so be it. Republicans do not seem to mind Trump as long as his success ensures a Democratic defeat. But with so much at stake, the 2024 election takes on an even more important role and Democrats must rise to the challenge. Trump’s base is strong and vocal, but Democrats are stronger and can be more vocal. Democrat campaign workers must work double time to get out the vote. They must encourage Democrat voters to voice their opinion at the polls in 2024 in unprecedented numbers. So much is at stake and it is possible Democrat voters have developed voter fatigue. This must be prevented at all cost. Too many Democrat voters have grown comfortable with the false idea that the Trump era is over. The fact is that it is not and this trial will prove it. Trump will galvanize his supporters and Republicans will come out in full force either to support him or the other candidates in order to prevent a Democrat win. This move against Trump is seen by Republicans as a dirty move by Democrats and nothing but revenge against the former president. The 2024 elections are about to get fierce and Democrats must get serious about how to emerge victorious again this time around. The future of America depends on it.
