Former patient at MO transgender clinic says Free Press didn't get their side of the story [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-05 The child was called “Casey” in Yoffe’s article, but revealed on Twitter that their real name is Alex—and that both his mother and Yoffe had essentially cut them out of the story. x I have reinstalled Twitter to respond to this story and make sure my voice is fully heard. I am Casey. My real name is Alex but my mom decided it would be best to hide it for anonymity. But this is my story, not hers. This is not the free press’s story. https://t.co/Okx47IGmtL — Alex 🏳️‍⚧️ (@SleepyOktobur) April 4, 2023 Alex went on to say that their mother reached out to Yoffe “without my knowledge” and described his family’s experience based on “false perceptions” about the Transgender Center. According to The Daily Dot, Alex was interviewed “with their mother in the room.” However, Alex claims that they only learned the article was about to be published when their mom called and asked them if Yoffe had the green light to go live with it. They wanted to give it a read first—and was so “disgusted” with how their experience was portrayed that they reached out to Yoffe with his objections. According to Alex, Yoffe told them that they had no say on whether the article would be published. That was bad enough in and of itself, but Alex claims that Yoffe’s story is shot through with errors. x My mother claims that she was pressured into saying yes by the doctors. A big issue they point out is that the doctors quoted suicide statistics in transgender adolescents. I do not deny that these statistics were quoted, but I also sustain that the doctors didn’t say (continued) — Alex 🏳️‍⚧️ (@SleepyOktobur) April 4, 2023 x Speaking of mental health, the article claims that my mental health issues can be attributed to the Supprelin implant, however, my personal experience shows that this is not the case. Since Covid-19, my mental health has been declining, and it was already an issue. — Alex 🏳️‍⚧️ (@SleepyOktobur) April 4, 2023 x After she revoked consent, my father and I, along with the university, attempted to set up a meeting with my mom. She did not attend this meeting, claiming that she was not contacted. Later, she admitted that she was. — Alex 🏳️‍⚧️ (@SleepyOktobur) April 4, 2023 If Alex is telling the truth, then Yoffe’s interview with their mother is a hatchet job of the worst type. Since Alex’ thread dropped, there has been virtually no response from Weiss and Yoffe, apart from sharing and retweeting his mother’s interview with Yoffe. Sorry, that’s not acceptable. Weiss and Yoffe have a lot of explaining to do. Given the egregiousness of the journalistic malpractice being alleged here, they need to do so in short order.
