[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-06 Approximately The richest 1% of the population’s income ≥ The poorest 50% income The richest 1% climate altering emissions ≥ Climate altering emissions by the poorest 50% There appears to be a direct correlation. The more you are worth, the more you damage the earth. There is a reason why every political climate discussion revolves around nett zero. There is a reason that CO2 capture/sequestration and carbon offsetting are so readily proposed. Never mind that there are cheaper and proven methods of producing renewable energy out there. Why continue to explore for more oil? Could it be that certain individuals are more interested in going on as usual as actually solving the problems? Where are the excessive profits to be made in known technologies? Ah, the drive towards bigger, more powerful, more expensive and heavier electric vehicles without: 1 Worrying where the energy to charge them comes from. 2 Worrying about wars for resources to make them could arise. 3 Worrying about the cost of maintaining the roads to carry the excess weight. Surely now is the time to totally review the concept of vehicular transport, for example a couple of years ago I bought an e-trike, light and does everything I need daily, we have electric trains for nearly everything else. How about reducing the material/energy cost of all vehicles? How about changing the way we behave rather than trying to offset more of the same? How about aiming for 0 °C rather than the dangers of allowing 1.5 °C? Since when have we ever met a target with respect to the environment? At least, if we aim low, we would have some possibility of avoiding the catastrophe of missing a higher target. The more money you have surely enables you to invest more in living responsibly? Just a thought.
