Bolly and his Unusual Hat, on a Road

One day, Bolly was walking along a forested road, traveling really, but since he didn't know where he was going, mostly just walking. The weather was warm, and he climbed a little hill by the side of the road, and took a nap in the shade of a cluster of bushes. Soon, awakened by the sound of angry voices, he peeked out and saw two groups of men, having apparently met while coming from opposite directions. They were arguing because each thought the other group had captured "somebody" -- and they began to fight. Bolly decided to quietly depart in the most logical direction -- away. By the next day, he came to a villiage. They welcomed him, and admired his unusual hat.

For awhile when my wife didn't mind, I told her stories to help her get to sleep. Anymore she hits the pillow as soon as lights out and -- Once upon a time I imagined aloud a young fellow, there long ago in places unknown -- he had an unusual hat, and his name was Bolly.
