Department of Justice U.S. District Judge Susan C. Bucklew today sentenced Jeremy Brown (48, Tampa) to seven years and three months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for possession of unregistered short-barrel firearms, possession of unregistered explosive grenades, improper storage of explosive grenades, and retention of classified information. In addition, he was ordered to forfeit the unregistered devices traceable to the offense, pay child support arrears and a special assessment in the amount of $525. Brown was found guilty after a jury trial on December 12, 2022. According to evidence presented at trial, on Sept. 30, 2021, the FBI executed an arrest and search warrant at Brown’s residence in Tampa. During the search, agents found an unregistered AR-15-style rifle, modified to have a 10” barrel, in Brown’s bedroom. Agents also found a sawed-off shotgun, also unregistered, on a couch inside of Brown’s recreational vehicle (RV), which was parked near his home. Inside a briefcase next to the shotgun, agents found a classified Trip Report that Brown had authored shortly before he retired from the U.S. Special Forces. Inside the bedroom of that same RV, agents found an ammunition vest containing two M-67 fragmentation grenades hidden in the pockets. U.S. Army records confirmed that the grenades had originally been in the possession of the U.S. Army. Trial evidence also established that Brown had served as a weapons sergeant in the Special Forces, which would have given him access to M-67 fragmentation grenades. Finally, the evidence established that the classified Trip Report contained highly sensitive information about U.S. Department of Defense intelligence – gathering tactics, techniques, and procedures, including information about a human source that, if released, could have caused the source to be arrested, tortured, or killed. The judge seems to have had it with his shit... Tampa Bay Times The prison sentence, which totaled 87 months, came after the judge spoke of Brown’s 20 years of service as Green Beret, but also his actions since his retirement, which she said demonstrated Brown put himself above the law. “You’ve accepted no responsibility for what you’ve done in this case,” Bucklew said. “And you are defiant to the end.” Clad in baggy orange pants and an orange jail shirt, Brown addressed the judge for close to 15 minutes before he was sentenced. In lofty rhetoric that detailed his military background and referenced the words of Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, the Declaration of Independence and the judge’s own legal career, Brown accused the government of deceiving the court and targeting him. “My service cannot be tarnished by lesser men,” he said, looking at the prosecutors. Dude joined the Oath Keepers after Trump lost the 2020 election... Florida Phoenix Brown was found guilty on Monday on the two counts of unlawfully owning two guns; two counts of possessing military grenades; one misdemeanor count of knowingly storing explosive material illegally, and one count of possessing national security documents – a 2011 “Trip Report” that was about the search for then-missing U.S. Army Soldier Bowe Bergdahl that Brown had claimed was his own “work product.” (snip) Although it’s impossible to know how the jury felt about Brown, they may have been affected by a quote originally made on Friday and repeated in the closing argument made by federal prosecutor Menno Goedman that quoted Brown as saying in a phone conversation to his girlfriend in a jail phone conversation right before the trial (all his conversations were record by the government) where he said, “I could lie my ass off and they’d love the shit out of me.” Brown became active with the Oath Keepers, a far-right militia group, shortly after the 2020 presidential election, and that’s what led him to be outside the Capitol on Jan. 6. He never entered the Capitol that day, and was never accused of doing anything violent that day. Daily Beast A former Green Beret and one-time congressional candidate arrested last month for his alleged participation in the Capitol riot was illegally stockpiling explosives prior to being jailed on charges related to the Jan. 6 pro-Trump siege, according to an FBI search warrant filed Friday in Washington, D.C. federal court. When federal agents searched 47-year-old Jeremy Brown’s Florida home in October, they reported finding a short-barrel rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, more than 8,000 rounds of ammunition, and two hand grenades. But it was a picture included in a sales listing for his house on Zillow that led to his latest troubles. In a photo from “what appears to be Brown’s office,” FBI agents spotted a whiteboard with columns labeled “Food,” “Clothing,” “Shelter,” “Currency,” “Communicate,” “Move,” and “Shoot,” the warrant states. In the “shoot” column, it continues, “there are numerous firearms listed and explosive devices such as ‘flash bangs.’” The entry on the whiteboard indicated that Brown had the flash bangs “on hand,” the filing says, adding that Brown “is not registered to possess explosive devices.” Insider The FBI is looking for explosives that they believe belong to an ex-congressional candidate who was arrested last month for his alleged involvement in the January 6 insurrection, according to an FBI search warrant. What tipped them off? A photo posted on Zillow by the defendant. (snip) The warrant also mentioned that the FBI is now trying to locate Brown's trailer where they believe flashbangs and other weapons listed in the photo in his Zillow listing may be stocked. "[I]t is unlikely that an individual would market a home available for public inspection with guns and explosives inside of the home, [thus] it is probable ammunition, and explosives, which constitute potential evidence in the investigation, have been moved to the RV or trailer," the warrant says. He was arrested September 30th, 2021 Washington Post Congress was days away from certifying the 2020 election results when Jeremy Brown, a retired Special Forces soldier and onetime Congressional candidate, offered others a ride to the U.S. Capitol in an RV he dubbed “GROUND FORCE ONE.” “Plenty of Gun Ports left to fill,” he wrote on encrypted chat app Signal, according to federal court documents. “We can pick you up.” Brown, who showed up to the Capitol on Jan. 6 decked out in military gear, was arrested this week in Tampa, in connection with the riot that sought to stop lawmakers from formally tallying President Biden’s victory over Donald Trump. Federal prosecutors charged Brown with knowingly entering restricted grounds and engaging in “disorderly or disruptive conduct.” He was jailed pending trial for threatening law enforcement... Tampa Bay Times U.S. Magistrate Judge Sean P. Flynn ordered Brown detained, but called it a difficult decision. He emphasized that it was not due to Brown’s political beliefs or his ownership of weapons. “You made a specific threat to law enforcement,” the judge told Brown. “And that’s something I can’t ignore.” The threat came in a profane handwritten sign Brown posted in front of his house after a visit from federal agents earlier this year. It bore a message addressed to the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. It urged them to “re-read your oath,” saying they were being used as “pawns by the enemies of this republic,” and warning when they came back, they should “bring a bigger tactical package.” A member of his carpool turned on him... Task & Purpose Another person who was charged with involvement in the Capitol riots told authorities that they came to Washington, D.C., with Brown, who “coordinated travel plans and rendezvous points,” according to court records. In a message on Signal, an encrypted messaging app, Brown allegedly told others in the chat that they could come to his home any time on Saturday, Jan. 2, before they left early on Sunday morning. (snip) By looking at body camera footage on Jan. 6, authorities found that Brown was allegedly well inside the barriers law enforcement had created to protect the building. Court records say that as authorities worked to push people back and secure the building that afternoon, Brown “only retreated when pushed with police baton sticks.” (snip) After the riots, Brown allegedly messaged on Signal: “Everything you are watching on the Media and House of Congress is a LIE! I was shot in the neck with pepper balls and beating [sic] in the forearm with a night stick trying to shield unprotected civilians from being hit in the head,” Brown said, according to court records. “This was an exercise in the unrestrained addiction to power.” Dude started running his mouth right after the insurrection... Washington Post Brown who had spent months warning the United States was on the verge of tyranny and “total war,” said in a brief interview that he had gone to the nation’s capital to “provide security” at the rally. There’s no evidence to suggest that Brown, 46, a former master sergeant, entered the Capitol building with rioters, and he has not been charged with any crime. But the killing of a fellow Air Force veteran by police inside the Capitol left Brown enraged at the very government he had over the course of a long military career sworn an oath to defend and serve. “Wanna shoot an UNARMED VETERAN attempting to UPHOLD her Oath? The SAME oath you F---ING COWARDS seem to forget YOU took YOURSELF!” he wrote in a post on Parler, a social media site increasingly under scrutiny for an abundance of threatening messages. He challenged the Capitol Police to a “duel” and posted a video of the moment Ashli Babbitt was killed. “WHAT ELSE DO YOU F---ING NEED!” he exhorted his followers on Parler. “WATCH!!! THEN CHOOSE! JOIN or DIE!” identifying individuals who participated in unlawful conduct during the Capitol Insurrection. New images are added frequently...
