And you gentlemen out there, pay attention. I am about to turn 60. I haven’t been interested in getting pregnant for 25 years and haven’t been able to for 10. Yet, and I bet a lot of you can relate to this next part, and to others it will be news to you, I’m being asked more and more frequently, even than I was two or three years ago, if I’m pregnant when I interface with the medical system. I used to laugh it off, just like I used to laugh off being carded when I bought smokes where I’d tease people and say, “Oh, thanks for thinking I’m 19.” But this is not a laughing matter. So why is this happening? Well, I’m 99% confident that it has nothing to do with caring about pregnant women and the children they’re carrying. It has everything to do with controlling them. If you become pregnant, then suddenly you get removed from the decision making process. You are a ward of the state, and the state will decide what drugs you can or cannot take, what treatments you are or are not eligible for. Doctors won’t prescribe pregnant women anything that Amy Covid-Barrett doesn’t approve of because they understandably don’t want to spend their student loan pay back money on phone calls from prison. That is where all this is headed. Unless we stop it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UPDATE Please go read Turnip50’s diary Proposing a National Summer of Direct Action. It’s about what we can do in practice today, and it prompted this response from me. I was listening to Tim Snyder earlier today talking about the uprising in Ukraine when they ousted their Putin-puppet president and started on their long, hard path for democracy. He said it started with the kids. Then when it got a little violent, the parents and grandparents were all like, “Oh, I don’t like seeing my kid getting teargassed and manhandled on the streets. I’m gonna go out there, too.” And they all stepped away from their computers and went out to support the kids. Their feedback about the experience was when they were at home watching the news, they felt very fearful, but when they were out on the streets with hundreds of thousands of others, they felt calm and full of purpose. Yeah, I agree. I think it’s time to start seeking out local protests and maybe making a poster or two. I’m in. Thanks for this. And they won.
