Easter Bakery

I usually accompany Mrs. side pocket to church on Easter (and Christmas). Today, for the first time since the pandemic, there was to be a coffee hour, with refreshments. No hot cross buns at Safeway, so we decided to go further afield. A friend had told us about a great bakery near us, so we ventured over to a nearby small shopping center and located it. I should have been warned...it was called a boulangerie rather than a bakery. The staff had French accents, which added to the authenticity. It was jammed, mostly with young folks. (From our viewpoint, most people fall into that category. )

Behind the counter was an amazing selection of fancy and elegant bakery items. Our mouths watered as we envisioned presenting one of them to the church group. I saw a pretty cake, small, but oh so beautiful. Only $8?, that’s a bargain. Oh, that’s $8 a slice, the whole cake was $60. All the prices were similar, and the charming pastries and cakes were selling like, well, hotcakes. I often write about smart shopping, using sales and discount stores. Once again, we have been left behind.

Now eggs aren’t exactly cheap, but they are symbolic for Easter, so we went with Plan B, which is deviled eggs, and mine are always excellent and popular.

At the coffee hour, the tables were filled with cookies, muffins, brownies, and other bakery items. My eggs were all chosen immediately, and received compliments. Cheers for Plan B.
