[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-09 Seems I got past a paywall with the great and glorious The Wall Street Journal, and I was rewarded with their version of a safari to meet Trump voters and — ahem, cough, cough, bullshit — and “independents” voters to see what they “think” (Yeah, right. Coherent and logical thought processes not needed) about Trump’s indictment and the presidential race. Needless to say, I find these excursions to the supposed hinterlands to interview Trump voters as a waste of space and time, but we progressives must be endlessly be lectured to about the great policies that Trump has, which are never mentioned in detail. This is what I gather from Trump voter safaris, at least according to the media elites. The only so called difference is that the WSJ threw in some voters they labeled as independents. Too bad they were not real political independents but partisan Republicans who think it is cool to think of themselves as independent voters. First up, imagine a scene at a Milwaukee gathering of Republican voters: Just hours after Donald Trump became the first former president to be indicted, Republicans filed into a tavern northwest of Milwaukee to commiserate over Tuesday evening’s loss of a hard-fought race for a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat. As the clock approached midnight, a heated debate broke out between two men active in the local GOP, said Randy Marquardt, the party chairman in Washington County. One argued for loyalty to Mr. Trump, he said, while the other insisted it is time for the party to pick someone else as their 2024 presidential nominee. “It got ugly and people eventually went their separate ways to head home,” said Mr. Marquardt. “The other guy argued that Trump came with too much baggage, but there are still quite a few people who are all in with Trump.” Mr. Marquardt, who twice voted for the former president, says he thinks it is time to move on. Oh LOOK! Proof that Republican voters are turning against Trump! The Murdoch’s REJOICE! One guy who isn’t named, and the other the party chairman in Washington County. Ten to one the party chair changes his tune in 2024, especially once the choice is between Trump and the EVERY SO YUCKY BIDEN! Democrats are always worse than the slimiest Republican on the ballot, according to poor Republican voters who are forced to vote against any Democrat. And even if you are a Republican voter who is contemplating not supporting Trump in the primaries, well, I will let this guy explain it: “The party should avoid Trump and find a younger and fresher candidate,” said David Sherwood, a 73-year-old Dallas lawyer who voted for Mr. Trump in 2016 and 2020. “I don’t think Trump can win because he has too much baggage. He has good policies, but an abrasive personality.” Like what? Pushing white supremacy? Locking immigrant kids in cages? Letting COVID-19 kill over a million Americans? Tanking the economy? This is the problem I have with these safaris. No one from the media bothers to poke the wild Trump voter with a stick to find out what those “good policies” are. It never happens. Never. So why is this news? Anyway, the WSJ decided to broaden their search to include some “independent voters.” You tell me how independent these folks are: Cassi Carey, a 59-year-old independent voter who lives in Milwaukee’s suburbs, is already dreading a 2024 general election that could again feature Messrs. Trump and Biden. The self-employed home organization consultant declined to say who she voted for in the 2016 or 2020 presidential elections, but she is certain she doesn’t want to see a rematch that features the current president and the most recent former one. “I desperately want someone I can actually vote for, rather than vote against,” said Ms. Carey, who thinks Mr. Biden is too old for the presidency and Mr. Trump is too divisive. I know people want a right to privacy, but lady, you are being interviewed by a major newspaper. You volunteered for this thing. And I think your failure to tell us who you voted for is more “I voted for Trump twice, but I don’t want to admit this. It will ruin my whole independent voter label thing.” And once again, who would you vote for Ma’am? Nothing to see here. But let’s go to the guy who voted for Trump TWICE who claims he is an independent voter: Kevin Welch, a 59-year-old self-employed real-estate investor and independent voter in Pottsville, Pa., said he would like to see another option from the GOP, even though he voted for Mr. Trump in 2016 and 2020. “He’s just too caustic,” he said. “I liked some of the things he did for this country, but the division that he causes, because of the words he uses, creates a lot of tension.” Mr. Welch said he would vote for Mr. Trump again, if he becomes the GOP nominee, because he dislikes Mr. Biden even more. He also said the indictment has triggered some sympathy in him for Mr. Trump. “How many other human beings get charged for paying off a mistress?” he asked. “It is a ridiculous waste of time and government resources.” Mr. Welch is no more an independent than I am. This guy is a Republican who just wants to be thought of as independent. Look at that reasoning in the end. “Trump broke a no big deal law! Who cares!?” And once again, what did Trump do that was so good for the country Mr. Welch? Crickets from the WSJ reporter. But somehow, Biden is WORSE than Trump. But I do love this one Republican voter they got for this article. She is labeled as a “moderate Republican.” Cyndi Tendick, a 30-year-old self-described moderate Republican who works in hospitality management and lives in suburban Phoenix, said she can’t support Mr. Trump again as she did in the 2020 election. “I’m looking for someone who can come in and work the middle,” she said. “He’s more drama than necessary, and he would not be able to get anything done.” Still, she called the felony charges of filing false business records he faces in Manhattan “a bunch of B.S.” and said she would like to see prosecutors there focus on more serious crimes. “There is so much other stuff going on, way worse than he did,” she said. Ms. Tendick, as she considers the still forming 2024 GOP presidential field, said she is most intrigued by Nikki Haley, a former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador. “I’m listening to her more because she’s more middle-of-the-road than a lot of folks,” she said. Riiiigghtt. It’s all a bunch of B.S. Prosecutors there in NYC need to focus on “more serious crimes.” Let the guy go who committed crimes that are no big fuckin’ deal. Oh, and Nikki Haley with “raise the retirement age for Social Security” and wants to have a national ban on abortion. Sure Ms. Moderate. You go on believing the shit you are shoveling. And Democratic voters? Well, we don’t count when it comes to media safaris to see what voters thinks. Only Republicans with their well thought out positions on the issues and independents matter.
