Melania Might Mangle the Master of Mar-A-Lago [1]

Ok, I admit I couldn’t avoid the alliteration. (Again.) So, Political Wire linked two articles this morning.. First up: Page 6:

Donald Trump makes post-arrest plea to Melania: ‘I really need you’

“[Trump] told her, ‘I really need you for this because we are going to be campaigning,'” a source said. “They had a major talk over the weekend, and she has … agreed to be on board.”

and

She’d been notably absent from his post-arraignment speech at his Palm Beach, Fla., private club, Mar-a-Lago, last week. But on Easter, the duo was seen together at the resort having Easter brunch behind a velvet rope. They even got a standing ovation when they entered the room.

On the other hand . . . Second up: People Magazine (posted April 10):

In the wake of Donald Trump's arraignment over an alleged hush money payment he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016, Melania Trump wants to remain out of the spotlight, sources tell PEOPLE. That means that while her husband continues to host rallies and speaking engagements as part of his 2024 presidential campaign, Melania doesn't have plans to get involved. "Melania is not now or hasn't recently taken part in her husband's political events," a source tells PEOPLE. "It is not comfortable for her."

Now, Melania is still angry at the public examination of her husband’s many infidelities, and she wasn’t present when Trump went to New York to be arrested and arraigned. People Mag also notes that in his Tuesday evening screech, Trump thanked members of his family, but made no mention of Melania.

She still has that pre-nup, and she’s still focused on seeing that her son Barron gets treated well. But in her time at the White House, she was noticeably low-profile, made little use of her position as First Lady, and generally seemed to dislike the limelight. That dislike only seems to have grown since she escaped the “crown jewel of the federal penal system.”

So I would not be surprised to see her subtly undermining Trump’s campaign to return there (and not incidentally escape punishments for his crimes against her as well as against the country).
