Red States and Trailer Parks: Or, Let's Put the Gee in Geopolitics [1]

So I put in "terminator", looking for this, and I got one of this and everything else was Schwarzenegger.

So there’s a couple things that happen around here, and I was thinking about them and realized something.

Tragedy strikes, and people show up to express relief that it didn’t happen in their home town.

Tragedy strikes, and people show up to express relief that it happened in a red state. This is not the same as the one just above it, because sometimes in this variant, satisfaction is expressed along with the relief.

Tragedy strikes, and people show up to express relief [and possibly satisfaction or elation] because it happened outside the US.

Variations on this theme include an occasionally expressed wish that the tragedy had happened to people living in trailer parks, apparently because people living in trailer parks deserve to have bad things happen to them because they live in trailer parks? Whether or not trailer parks were the site of, or mentioned at all in connection with, said tragedy.

Now, even allowing for the Internet being the natural habitat of Troglodytes americanus, and even allowing for this particular site attracting an abundance of those and other species in that genus, this is a bit much. Take it much further and people will think finally realize be solidly convinced that we’re all really Republicans when we clock out for the day.

Because the thing is — brace yourselves — there are a LOT of people in this online community who live in Red and Purple states, or outside the Lower 48, or outside the US entirely. And there are a fair number of community members whose passports aren’t blue, and don’t have that eagle thingie on them.

And as the crowning horror, there are more than a few community members who… live in trailer parks….

But it’s one thing to say that, and another to have receipts.

So I thought, well, a poll would be fun, especially if it includes a little something for genus Troglodytes. No doubt, there are stats on this stuff, but I’m pretty sure someone here knows exactly where that info is and will be happy to bring it here and share it. In the meantime, tell us where you’re from, so we all know who we’re ill-wishing the next time this happens.

“Murka”, of course, refers to the US, as commonly enunciated by the people in those trailer parks.

Oh yeah, those trailer parks…
