Why Not? So how many horrifying stories about the effects of overturning Roe have you heard recently? So it is a Jennifer Rubin column outraged about U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk and other Trump judges in the Washington Post that has me exercised. Rubin, supposedly hired by the newspaper as a conservative, might sometimes be described as out pacing much the Democratic establishment politicians and pundits on a range of themes dear to anyone who reads this blog. Including this one. Not that the Democratic Party is not doing an effective job already at banging this Roe drum wherever one can. The Dobbs decision is more or less easily responsible for 60% or more of recent electoral success at beating back Trumpery, eh? And it is obvious polling is not measuring this gap, as obvious as the concern if not outright panic that some in the GOP are thinking regarding overreach on the theme. President Biden is busy and by nature weak on this federal Roe national crisis. But Harris has no job. This one is perfect for her. She is a lawyer and should be a moderate (vis-a-vis for instance some of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s more dramatic notions). She should be a traveling advocate to bolster and bring attention to the struggles and injustices that have been caused by Dobbs. Everywhere and at every level, since it is the Federal Government’s fault that Roe fell. Someone else can write the speeches, but she should visit Texas and explain why the White House can describe how this decision is desperately effecting or going to effect the many young women and older women, children and men. Explain in each case and specifically who is being damaged by the decision and why. Then next stop where ever else some Trump judge produces another outrage. (In retrospect, ought she not to have been campaigning in Wisconsin for Judge Janet Protasiewicz?) Let’s pile on even this crushing defeat for the right. I’m no polling wonk or insider, and I wouldn’t want her presence not to help because she is unpopular here or there or somewhere. But from my vantage, she could campaign on this one in Kansas or Texas or anywhere else and move the needle in the right direction. Each appearance ends with a lecture about how the newest Congress must legislate Roe back into the picture. Is this not a no-brainer?
