A weird letter from Shri Thanedar [1]

Businessman Shri Thanedar, long shot for the Democratic nomination for Michigan governor in 2018.

When Senator Gary Peters (D-Michigan) or Senator Debbie Stabenow (also D-Michigan) sends me a letter, it sometimes takes me a minute to remember what it was that prompted me to write to them in the first place. Sometimes it’s because of a petition here on Daily Kos, sometimes it’s for a topic for which I’m not really aware who is else is thinking about it, but which I believe affects enough people that these legislators should be aware of it.

But with this letter from Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Michigan, U. S. House District 13) that I got earlier today, I am having a bit of a tough time figuring out what he’s responding to.

The subject line is not much help either: “Representative Shri Thanedar responding to your message.” It’s better than what I get from Councilwoman Gabriela Santiago Romero, I suppose, which is nothing at all.

For context, businessman Shri Thanedar was a long shot for the Democratic nomination for Michigan governor in 2018. Fortunately Gretchen Whitmer won the nomination and is now governor. After that, Thanedar decided to set his sights a little lower, to the state legislature. Then he moved on to the U. S. Congress.

Not with my vote, but I figure I should give him a chance. So I write to him, just like I wrote to his predecessors. And he does seem to have accomplished a few things as a state representative, even when Republicans had a deadly stranglehold on the statehouse.

Still, this letter really has scratching my head...
