TX-Sen: Cruz's (R) Idiotic Tweet Comparing Armed Teachers To Armed Bank Guards Blows Up In His Face [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-12 Fucking moron: “We have an opportunity right now to double the police officers on campus and keep kids safe,” he added. “When you go to the bank and you deposit money in the bank, there are armed police officers at the bank. Why? Because we want to protect the money we save. Why on earth do we protect a stupid deposit more than our children?” Cruz wrote in the March 31 tweet promoting a “school safety” bill he had reintroduced. Cruz ― who has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign support from the gun lobby over his political career ― sent the tweet in the wake of last month’s massacre at a Nashville, Tennessee, private school. The shooter in that incident was also armed with an assault-style rifle, as well as two other firearms, all purchased legally. On Monday, ten days after the senator’s tweet, a gunman armed with an AR-15 rifle killed five people and injured at least eight more at the Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky. He bought the gun legally, according to authorities. Last month, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) suggested schools could prevent mass shootings by enlisting more armed officers like banks do. Ted, the guy who killed 5 yesterday at a BANK did it with an AR-15. Why on earth don’t we get rid of these weapons of war? https://t.co/gqcNwePJOe It remains to be seen which big name Democrats step up to take on this fucking moron but there’s one name that raises eyebrows: Democratic U.S. Representative Colin Allred from Texas is being considered by his party as a "formidable candidate" to challenge incumbent Republican Senator Ted Cruz in the 2024 election, according to a report from The Dallas Morning News. Allred, who represents Texas' 32nd congressional district, has served in Congress since flipping his district's seat in 2018 against incumbent Republican Pete Sessions. Now the 39-year-old congressman is reportedly considering a run against Cruz, who has already announced his 2024 reelection campaign for what would be his third term as senator. According to the Morning News, nearly a dozen different Democratic strategists and activists told the outlet that Allred could be the switch-up that Texas Democrats need to end a decades long losing streak.
