Dawnafe Whitesinger’s Broadcast Will Present an All-Star Cast to Let Natives Know What’s at Stake [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-13 Radio Host Dawnafe Whitesinger will have guests ranging from Sen. Mark Kelly, Rep. Mary Peltola and on-the-ground organizers in her upcoming program. Radio Host Dawnafe Whitesinger is lining up an all-star guest list for her May broadcast, which will likely feature U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola of Alaska, and one or more of Arizona’s newly elected statewide leaders. Senator Kelly is expected to give an update on Miner Flat Dam, a project that will bring clean drinking water to all parts of the White Mountain Apache Reservation. Currently, some villages get only blackish water that is heavily contaminated with manganese. Kelly will also address clean water, electricity and Internet for the Navajo Nation, and efforts to clean up abandoned uranium mines that cause illness on the reservation. The schedule is not completely fixed, but is coming together. Rep. Peltola, the first Alaska Native elected to Congress, is working to increase Native American turnout in elections. Natives in Arizona were instrumental in electing Kelly to the U.S. Senate twice, electing Joe Biden as president, and electing Democrats Gov. Katie Hobbs, Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and Attorney General Kris Mayes. Jaynie Parrish will give a remembrance of the incredible life of Peterson Zah, the first president of the Navajo Nation who past away in March. Loren Marshall, the field director for the most effective field team working on Arizona’s reservations, will also be interviewed, discussing the challenges of the upcoming cycle. One thing the show will have to deal with is the fact that Native Americans in northeast Arizona are essentially not represented in the U.S. House. There will be some person-in-the-street interviews about how people feel about Congressman Dohwaada (Congressman Nothing, in Apache) Dawnafe’s show reaches tens of thousands of Navajos, Hopis and Apaches through radio stations KTNN and KNNB.
