The Longest Serving Woman in Congress [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-14 The longest serving woman in congress, Rep Marcy Kaptur's (D-Ohio), made a chart of congressional districts and median household income. That’s it down below. She painted R districts red, and D districts blue, above the median household income on the first page, below median household income on the second. When Rep Kaptur passes the chart around to her fellow Democratic colleagues they are quiet. Up above is the chart Axios posted using the Rep’s data Axios. On the right is the Rep’s chart from Business Insider. The counterargument is that President Biden still won households making under $100K, and Trump won the $100K to $200K houses, above $200K Trump and Biden split the vote. But.. for congressional districts… Rs got 64% of those below the median household income. ($70K) “how is it possible that Republicans are representing the majority of people who struggle?" Representative Kaptur would like to know. Here’s another quote from the congresswoman, “"It makes a difference in how you speak," said Kaptur. "My hardest struggle is to have my staff speak in a way that the public I represent will hear. For Democrats, that's very hard." I know what she is talking about, there is a whole vocabulary that highly educated activists use that signals to each other that they are on the same team, everybody else is left wondering what is being talked about, and a feeling that maybe they aren’t on this team. I’m not a sky is falling type. I don’t think Trump will even run again, but the loss of the working class is not a good thing. If we continue to lose working class voters, we will lose. Republicans didn’t do any landslide type win in the mid terms, and yes they won some gerrymandered districts, but they also got more votes, more total votes. It might be a good idea to consider economic issues instead of fighting over cultural issues which many don’t even think about. By economic I don’t mean interest rates or battery factories, I mean a lot higher wages today for everything. All the industry groups complain about no workers, when what they mean is no workers for $12 an hour. Unemployment might be low, but labor participation rate is a lot lower. People of prime working age don’t want to for what’s being offered.
