Judicial Watch oddly unconcerned about Clarence Thomas's financial dishonesty [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-15 WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 28: Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) speaks at a demonstration where MoveOn.org delivered over 1 million signatures calling for Congress to immediately investigate and impeach Clarence Thomas at the US Supreme Court on July 28, 2022 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Jemal Countess/Getty Images for MoveOn) “Because no one is above the law!” That’s the slogan of Tom Fitton’s Judicial Watch. It shouldn’t take anyone very long to see that Tom Fitton is not sincere with that slogan. These are the subject lines for the most recent e-mails I’ve gotten from Judicial Watch: Judicial Watch TV Weekend Playback Hunter [Biden] Gun Scandal Update! Son of George Soros scoring easy White House access, records show One More Win for Honest [sic] Elections What’s Wrong with ERIC? Judicial Watch Study Details Left-Leaning Roots, Data Security Concerns, Possible Violations of Federal Law at the Electronic Registration Information Center Before that, there was last week’s “TV Weekend Playback.” Clarence Thomas’s financial dishonesty about being in a billionaire’s pocket has been going on for years, but it’s been less than a week since it came to light. A Supreme Court justice fails to disclose lavish gifts and trips? You’d think Judicial Watch would be all over it. But only if you also think Judicial Watch is being genuine about holding everyone accountable under the law, which clearly they’re not. I mean, can you imagine what would happen if Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, appointed by President Joe Biden (D), did something that was even just slightly inappropriate? Tom Fitton would be screaming for Jackson’s resignation. Clarence Thomas, on the other hand, was appointed to the Supreme Court by President George H. W. Bush (R, 1989 — 1993). So it’s crickets about Clarence Thomas on the Judicial Watch website. The last time Thomas was mentioned on the Judicial Watch website was a month ago, when Thomas was lauded for his “clear thinking” on so-called “election integrity.” Never mind that his wife aided and abetted the January 6 terrorists with the aim of overturning then-President-elect Biden’s legitimate Electoral College win supported by his legitimate popular vote win. As everyone else talks about Clarence Thomas’s financial dishonesty and lack of integrity, Judicial Watch is silent on the issue. Hell, even Fox News has something about Thomas’s most recent scandal. Senate Democrats are demanding Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts [link removed] open an investigation into Justice Clarence Thomas over what they decry as his "misconduct" detailed in a ProPublica report published last week. The liberal outlet's [link removed] report accused Thomas of improperly receiving lavish vacations from Republican mega donor Harlan Crow, which reportedly included taking trips across the world on the latter's yacht and private jet without disclosing them. In a Monday letter, Senate Judiciary Committee [link removed] Chair Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., along with every Democrat on the committee, cited the report as proof that Thomas has not upheld the ethical standards set for a Supreme Court justice. And of course Fox News dismisses the ProPublica report as “a political hit piece” and makes excuses for Harlan Crow’s Nazi paraphernalia. Supposedly there’s a “personal hospitality exception” that applies even to lower court justices, so it should also apply to Supreme Court justices. But if this was Justice Jackson, or either of the justices appointed by President Obama (D, 2009 — 2017), who failed to disclose the slightest gift from George Soros or whoever, Tom Fitton would be lecturing us about how Supreme Court justices should be held to a higher standard than anyone else in the federal government. Because no Democrat is above the law, but Republicans somehow are. I do have to give Tom Fitton credit for drawing attention to the issue of responsible gun disposal. Theoretically, Hunter Biden could have disposed of his gun in Delaware by taking it to a Community Firearm Recovery Program site. Not that I attach too much credibility to Fitton’s claim that Hunter Biden threw his gun in a dumpster, endangering the lives of sanitation workers and anyone else who might have accessed that dumpster. Other Republicans would much rather talk about Hunter Biden’s laptop, they seem averse to the idea that gun ownership should be concomitant with the slightest care or caution.
